'95 12V engine in '98 24V Auto truck issues...

Want to dump V10 in 2000 Ford Excursion

Front disc are back from a balancing job, what you are looking here is adapter to get the discs to balancing machine. They were removed quite amount off the discs, so looks like it wasn't money wasted. When you have everything apart, it's easy to do things a little bit better than usually. The filter and pump next to the frame is just a filtering loop, pumps it through the filter and then back to the return line.

Asked this question on 24V side too but no reply so far, If some of you guys have alternator like on the pic under the hood. Could you take a look at it to find out colors of the wires 1 and 2. Most likely I'm going to start up the engine on Sat. to break in the cam and stuff, but would like to hook up the alternator too before that.

Timo

Have you figured out the wirring yet for the alternator? that is the same one that I used. I will find out tonight the colours. I an external regulator and everything is working great. Charging at 15volts. I also had my Alt shop solder in for a tach wire and it is also bang on! I will look thru my pics right now and see if I can see the wire colours.

Oh... I just remembered I also have an extra plug/short piece of wiring that I can look at for you. Do you have the plug? it looked thru 3 different yards and I stumbled upon two of them at the last place... they are hard to find. If you want it you can have it... might take a while to get to you from Canada though!

Also, I have a few pics if my readers rigs section... not the best for seeing the wiring though.

Bryan, the filter set up filters fuel, I had the pump and Frantz on a shelf and orange line was already there, put it in when I was doing the fuel tank/line mods. Cleaner fuel is always a good thing.

Ryan, I had it figured out, I’m using old “tuned” plug from ac, which is not staying there so good, so, please send it over, will PM you my address etc. Mine is charging 13. 8V. Don’t have yet the battery temp sensor hooked up, maybe that’s got to do something with the volts. Although I do recall 13. 8 is quite common charging voltage.

Timo

The alternator should be putting out 13. 8 volts with the batteries connected. Anything much higher and you will boil the acid from the battery.

Keep up the good work!

Okie then, looks like the voltage is right. Run few more wires and vacuum line to the brake booster plus other minor things. Got the missing clamp to my timing meter and decided to check the timing with proper way. It was showing 13. 9, so I gotto pump it few more degrees at some point but it’s good enough for test runs, after getting everything else done. Looking forward to make a first real run in week or so.

Timo

The meter will work at any diesel with a mechanical pump. Got mine from Ebay, search for diesel timing and you will find meters and related things.

2mm bitumen installed to the hood, next layer to put there is same material what I have used for the fire wall. Other things what has been done lately, are just minor but time consuming things, been painting small parts etc. After the hood is done, it's time to do mud flaps and finally have the test run, then spend a few days just for adjusting and checking for bugs, if any. Two biggest things what are left, on to do list, are washer fluid container and coolant tank, I can't use originals anymore, since there are not just room for them.

Timo

Update for a long time, have done just small things like flaps for all four corners with a rubber "slice" which keep dirt off from top of the fuel tank and surrounding frame. On the pics, right side is under work and left side is finished with the flap, naturally same thing is done to front end too. I had to made a new safety latch to the hood, since original was hitting the IC core, also routed the cable to the hood lock differently, to keep it hidden much as possible.

Timo

Flaps done as well as the hood lock cable, the round black plastic object is a same kind of fastener which is used to hold up hood insulation, it protects the paint against the hood pop up spring.

Don't forget lugbolts on your wheels...

What kind of ratio does your rear end have? When do you think you'll be taking it for a drive?

Dave

That's a performance tip, use only three bolts to gain at least 2hp… :-laf

The ratio is 3. 73 which I believe is just fine for my all round driving with some hauling of my Jeep to the trails. Trying to do a first drive at some point during next week, since on 24th we are planning to make a trip to west coast, it's around 160 miles from here and like to do a few test drives before that.
