Just blew a rear tire (Michelin LTX-AT, 235/85/16-E) that had been on for just a day, too long. I don't drive the truck, too much, because of the '03-3500, I have. The '03 does all the towing & trips, now. However, I do use the 91. 5 for driving to work (about 3 to 4 miles, one way).

I'm not sure that I want premium tires, like the Michelins, due to the cost. The big problem is that I live in Phoenix, AZ. & the tires will dry-rot before they ever actually wear out. The Michelins were the best tire I had had on the truck, though.

Any recommendations for stock size, inexpensive, quality tires? I know that 'quality & inexpensive' don't necessarily go together but, there is probably a "happy medium".

Thanks.

I have been running Yokohama Geolander HTS for a lot of miles and almost 5 years. At the time they cost me $90 each, and at that time the Michelins, BFGs, Goodyears, etc were about $150 each. The Yokos had the same mileage warantee as the big boys. So I think those words go together.

I'd buy Yokos again.

you're right, hard to beat a Michelin....

I just put a set of 285/75-16 Load range D Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT's on, $160. 00 each at Canadian Tire, cheaper yet in the US I'm sure, made in USA, nice looking tire too... . they ride nice, quiet, and carry my camper well... had a set of Kumho's on it, same price, rougher ride...

The D'lops were a good buy, but I wanted Michelin's..... Ran a set on my Ford at work, hauling boats, for 120,000km (70,000 miles) and they held up great...

BFG all terrains are what i got on mine and there pretty good. quiet, smoot. but got good tread. i got 235's and they aint that loud at all. cant hear em over the cummins, even with the windows down

I put BFG AT's on my trucks and Michlin LTX's on Mama taxi.

If I were still in Phoenix and just commuting a few miles I would really consider BFG Long Trail radials. Not quite as aggressive or solid as the AT, but should be a good commuter. I have friends that run them and haven't had problems with them. I have had great luck with the ATs and have abused them on trails and run them fast on the freeway. I like 285's as they give me an extra inch or so (~33") and still fit fine. That extra inch seems to make a difference in seeing what is ahead in traffic.

I hate the dryrot, but sure see it a lot at my place too. Farm Tractor has almost "new" tires starting to crack. :( Backhoe starting to do the same. I am thinking that a nice big "tractorport" might pay for itself in sun damage savings.
