My 93 club cab 5 speed has sometimes started to kinda shudder from a dead stop in 1st or 2nd gear when I start to let the clutch out. It does not always do it and never slips or makes noises or shows any other problems. I am just certain tho that 5 or 6 months ago it never did this. Do hydraulic clutches need adjustment? I am a little green on the 5 speeds, my last one was an auto. Thanks.

There was a technical service bulletin about this that involves a 1/2 inch spacer between the carrier bearing mount and the frame and tapered spacers inserted between the rear springs and the mounts. Another area is the idle - it should be at 750 - follow factory specs for your transmission.

With all of the above being said mine didn't completely stop until I installed a South Bend Con-O clutch and my idle is at about 900.

That TSB is for the $X$ trucks that have the factory 6" blocks between the springs and axle.

With your truck being a 4x2 it most likely won't need the spacer block.

It's not a 2" block it's a tapered shim about 1/2 inch at the wide end. I have heard of good results using just the 1/2 inch spacer at the carrier bearing.

Forgive me for barging in here, but, it kinda sounds like the clutch disc is a little glazed. This can happen when it sits for a while or from heat. I do not know of a way to remove the glaze except for R&Ring the disc. Try to bring the cllutch in a little faster and see if that stops it. If it does, then it's glazed. won't hurt anything, just anoying.

This is what I got from the question. Forgive me if I'm outa line.

2shus,

My clutch chattered or shuddered intermittently when I bought it

2 years ago. I had babied and ignored it for a year when a broken LSD clutch disc took 2 teeth out of its ring gear at 193k. I removed the rear and took it to a well known local rebuilder. After the rear was out, I decided to pull the getrag and inspect the clutch.

The mainshaft was badly galled on the pilot bushing surface and

the cavity behind the pilot bushing was absolutely dry. No hint of ever having been installed with a dab of high temp grease. Also the center of the clutch disc was fractured between 2 spring holder holes and down to , but not through, the splines in the

center of the disc.

I had the local rebuilder put a new main shaft and bearing kit in. He recommended I overfill 1 to 1 1/2 quarts of oil to give the main shaft better lubrication.

The flywheel looked new, so I scuffed it lightly with 180 grit on a DA sander, put a new throwout bearing and pilot bushing in, and found the only rebuilt disc available by itself in Omaha and reassembled it.

So far, I've had 43K trouble free miles without the old shudder.

I assume that the chattering is what cracked the center out of the

old disc.

Good luck!
