Every time you want to start it you have to use ether. It can run all day long, shut it off and instantly try to start it and it wont start. have to use ether. Here is what i have done and checked for: fuel leaks, air getting into the lines, blead the lines, new fuel filter, new fuel cut off solenoid. Put fuel hoses in replace of factory to see if that was the problem and it didnt fix anything.

Anything you guys can think of???

1. Verify you have good fuel pressure to the IP on cranking, LP could be weak

2. Fill fuel filter with injector cleaner and make sure it runs a bit to get it into the pump\injectors then let sit overnight.

3. Advance pump timing and see if changes anything

4. Remove pump and injectors and have them rebuilt.

The latter seems to be thge only thing that fixes my problems lately. :rolleyes:

Another thing You may try is have a helper crank it over and rap on the fuel cutoff solenoid with a screwdriver handle and see if it starts. Once upon a time I saw this with another pickup.

PS also check the slip-on electrical connector at the fuel solenoid

There was a post a couple weeks ago with a similar problem.

I repaired a 1989 CTD with a similar problem turned out the 3 sided plug in the middle of the injector lines (VE pump) was slightly loose allowing high pressure fuel to leak by. This vehicle had to be towed to start then ran ok untill it was shut down.

The reason for the no start is as follows;

When the engine is cranking over slowly the fuel that is being pressurized leaks by the head seal preventing the injector from fireing.

If you bleed the injector there will be good flow but when the line is tightened the pressure can not build up to the 3 t0 4 k required to open the injector.

I would check the torque on the plug before condeming the pump.

well it's a buddys truck, thank fully..... i'll give this stuff a try and hopefully something will work... luckly, havent had any issues with my 24V except the starter going out

Seems to be a lot of this going around. Old age maybe. I had the same problem, did all the checks no go. I finally got the pump off, no sign of loose head. Sending it off for "professional help".

Someone pointed out that the fact mine would start with starting fluid would come to an end at some point. Good advice.

I had to take off most of the front end stuff( motorhome) to get at the pump. Lots of hours and I can't guess what somebody would have to charge me just to get to the pump, if I broke down away from home. ( The beer cost alone has been significant and I haven't started to put it back together yet)

And I wasn't even there to help drink it! :{

Check the fuel heater above the filter. The terminals get hot and melt the plastic and it will let air in, but no fuel out. I found out the hard way.

Joe, if I don't tell her where I'm going I don't get in trouble until I get home. And then I'm all likkered up and don't really care anyways! :-laf
