Working with a friend on his 94 that started the old hunting problem. Searched TDR and of course came to the TPS issue. The voltage from the TPS at idle checks at 350 millivolts. Goes up to a little over 3v at WOT.

Cannot find any way to adjust the idle voltage to the 1. 2 that was recommended on one of the posts. Loosened both 7mm screws but it appears to be not adjustable. Have a 470ufd cap ready to install.

Anyone have the factory spec for TPS voltage output at idle? Is this TPS actually adjustable?

The way to adjust the tps iis by adjusting the linkage.

The trick is to adjust it without loosing wot The forums came

Up with the idea of rotating the sensor. if you remove the metal

Sleeves that the screw go through this will give a bit more.

Being how far off the voltage is,it is probably shot

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I think we will try the hole enlargement and cleaning before spending the Grandchildrens' inheritance on a new TPS!

I am very familiar with pots froma long career in electronics and have never seen one change as much as this. Suspect it may have been a manufacturing defect that always gave some problems to the previous owner.

I may open it out of curiosity before getting a new unit.

Where for a new one?

Well, drilled the holes and gave it a good spraying. Still has a pretty bad spot probably where the throttle is most of the time.

From my electronics back ground, I used an ANALOG meter. (an old Simpson) Digital meters do NOT show the bad area hardly at all. I tried an Extech 4 1/2 digit DVM. The good old fashioned analog type makes it very obvious as the dip is huge when passing the bad spot.

So, who sells these parts at an affordable price for a quality part? NAPA wants $190. I imagine Cummins will be higher, but probably a better quality than afternarket.

One more question. Wouldn't adjusting the linkage change the idle speed?

You could install a pot instead of using the TPS. There's a place that sells a direct plug in kit for about $40. I'll see if I can find the link.
