This has me pulling out my hair ... ... ... .

I had a leaky valve cover that had the top of the motor covered in oil ..... so I gave it a good bath with brake cleaner and then sprayed everything with a air hose. I put the valve covers back on and tightened everything up ... ..... let it sit for an hour or so making sure everything was dry ... ..... Went to start it and NOTHING ... . I have power in the cab . . clock, radio, lights etc... ... ... When I turn the key to the "Start" position all power goes out ... ..... back to run and all is good. The engine does not even try to turn over. I also noticed that the fuel shutoff solenoid is not pulling up... if I reach down and push it up it will stay ..... I jumped the 2 posts on the bottom of the starter and it spins... but the Fuel Shutoff don't activate so it wont start ... ..... I took the alternator and had it tested to make sure that wasn't the issue and it tested strong...

I have cleaned the connections on the battery, and I even took a battery out of the '03 to make sure that was not the issue... ... .

Please help!

Thank you in advance!

There is a relay under the hood. one of the closest to the fender. It you take the cover off it it and push it down it will fire the starter. Also the fuel shutoff relay will not pull up untill the starter fires.

I tried pushing it down ... it seems to have been seated ... The 120amp ALT fuse is blown so I am going to go get one of them in few minutes ... . Would that create a "no crank" issue?

Update ... ... . Ok still no crank, but I did get back under it today and jump the leads on the bottom of the starter and it started ... ... so ... . I guess this narrows it down some ... just not sure what to look for or at ..... I no longer use the stock fuel system on the truck so I swapped the starter and fuel motor relays and that did not help ... ... ... . I am going to start reading but would welcome and advice ya'll might have ... ... ... .

Try shifting it from Park to Neutral. Or... keep your foot on the brake. . use 2 hands... push the key to the crank position and move the shifter up and down to try and see if your problem lies in the park neutral switch.

I had also found another fuse not labeled as related to be blown causing mine to not crank.

No I don't remember what Fuse it was. I just checked all of them. I do remember it was in the underhood panel.

The Park Neutral switch is down on the transmission. It screws into the side of the case near the shift linkage.

I got it to start ... ... not sure what was wrong ..... I started testing the circuits and I jumped it from the connection under the fuse box on the drivers fender well ... ... after doing that 2-3 times I tried the key and got a loud "click" then I tried the key again and it started ... ... . when I had it up on the jack I didnt watch what I was doing and I let it down a little hard ... maybe that had the solenoid bound:confused: but she runs now so all is good :D
