the transmission on my 97 is acting funny. it was rebuilt 100,000 miles ago and have not had any issues. It doesn't seem to be slipping but instead seems to not remember how to shift. When i start from a stop with the front wheels pointed forward it will start off great, but feels like it waits longer to go into 2nd than before. If i crank the wheels to the left or right it hesitates to take off and then will, and will do the same as described earlier from 1st to 2nd. When i get to about 45 mph if i am not still 3/4 into the throttle it seems to not be able to decide which gear it wants. If I get in or let off of the throttle it will pick which gear it wants. Just looking for good advice before i take it to a trans shop. I have no clue about automatic transmissions and am not afraid to say it but they could tell me anything and would not be able to tell them that they were wrong.

ANY IDEAS??

p. s. anyone know a honest trans shop somewhere near Frederick, MD

Check the transmission fluid level. If it is down a little this may be the cause of the problem. In cold weather the shifting is slower untin the trans fluid warms up. Not sure where you are but this may be part of the problem. After theses checks I'm out of ideas.

Don't forget!! That Danged TPS (available from aftermarkets for 1/2 the cost) is basically a part of your transmission. Inaccurate voltages (too high too low) will prevent the PCM from having a good clue when to shift—what you describe in large part is what I feel when the ol P0112 is gonna pop up on the scan tool!!I'd hate to see ya tear into any transmission work if the foolish 'volume control' is the root of the problem.

The Brake switch is tied into the system also. My father inlaw had a shifting and cruise control problem with his 97 auto, and it was the brake switch that was adjusted too sensitive. Every bump or lurch with the truck, and the transmission was shifting and acting goofy. Don't know if this is your problem, but it should be easy to check and rule out of the equation.
