Does your '98 12V's oil pressure seem to drop to zero when you stop? Does the truck "Ding!" at you? Does the idiot light come on? You likely need a new oil pressure sensor.
The first time it happened to me years back, I like to've had heart failure! In 11 years and 250K miles, I've replaced the sensor twice. It only seems to happen when the outside air temp is high (85F or better, IIRC).
The short answers:

The short answers:
- the sensor gets weak over time and the PCM stupidly interprets this slightly weak signal as 'dangerously low' oil pressure
- if the 6B truly loses oil pressure, I'm told the engine will quickly become really loud, at least for a short time
- parts stores want hundreds for the sensor ($330 at NAPA); Cummins Atlantic here wanted a whopping $33 plus $15 for overnight shipping from the mfr.
