Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) '98 ISB, '01 ISB ETH injector question

Are the injectors from a '98. 5 ISB interchangeable with the injectors from a '01 ISB ETH?

Yes but you better change the injector tubes on the 98. 5 first.



Also, I got that package Saturday, I am taking the "Banks... (etc)" off, and painting it black to match the truck!!! THANKS A LOT MAN!!!!

What about the 98. 5? I'm taking the 98's stock injectors and putting them in my '01. My DDII's are going from my 01 into the 98.

I think what TDK is getting at here is that

the connector tubes in the 98. 5 are not good to re-use.



I am not familiar with them (before my time), but the 99 and above are reusable.



By the way there called "male connectors" at the factory.

The injector tubes you can get from DD I think, they are about $30 i THINK. They will go one the 98. 5.

You'll only need the connector tubes IF your engine serial is number 56462592 or earlier...

I have a set of tubes

Powder Extreme, I have a used set from my ETH which I pulled out trying to solve a rough idle problem, didn't change a thing so I know they are good. Have about 16,000 miles on them. When I bought a new set from Cummins it ran me around $90 for the set ($13 apiece + tax). I have no idea what Piers or DD sells them for. If your serial number is below what Evan quoted drop me a PM. They are nice and clean but I can drop 'em in the ultrasonic cleaner at work and then zip 'em in ziplock bags before sending them.



Evan's quite the source of information, ain't he? I bet he has that serial number memorized

Piers sells them for a bit cheaper then you quoted, but the savings might be lost in shipping. I haven't asked DD what they sell them for. I'll check with Cummins here in the next few days, I am going to get a set to have onhand since I have been changing injectors alot.

Vaughn, I already ordered a set from Piers, thanks though. I was at Cummins Wednesday and they didn't have a freakin clue what I was talking about. 2 parts guys and 2 mechanics, no clue whatsoever. So I called PDR right there in the Cummins shop and relayed the reasoning for changing them on the earlier ISB's. They didn't buy it all and were convinced there is no problem and it's just a waste of money. As are injectors bigger than 275's, different turbo's, blah blah blah.



I'm sure glad we have guys like Piers, DD, Edge etc. there for us, if we had to rely on Cummins, we'd all be slow, albeit a whole lot richer

Not when you think about their Torques Maxes ECM, which is about 10 hp for about $800.

Well, that's true, but it still a whole lot cheaper than 5 grand for twin turbos, a grand for a comp box, 600 for injectors, a grand for a clutch and on and on.
