Order vs. Information
There are no "politics" going on by Illflem here. He's just trying to moderate appropriately.
Let me cut/paste directly from the TDR Website Guidelines:
* * *
Group Purchases: Any TDR member wishing to set up a group purchase, please have the vendor contact a member of the TDR staff directly. A group purchase must clearly state a start date and an end date. Its terms must be specific. It must include the company's name and company contact information (minimally a name and telephone number). Your name may be included in the Group Purchase as a coordination contact.

Looks to me like Illflem tried to allow plenty of leeway before stepping in. I would have possibly stepped in when the following post was made (and I cut/pasted directly from your post of of February 20, 2003 at 10:35 PM):

While it is not a direct solicitation, it clearly mutated from "information gathering" to a "group purchase" at this point.
Now, let me make the point - I THINK IT IS GREAT THAT YOU ARE WORKING ON SOMETHING FOR THE MEMBERSHIP. And I think it is FINE THAT ILLFLEM LET IT GO FOR A WHILE.
But I do not find it acceptable for ANY USER - including me - to SLAM a moderator for trying to do his/her job.
Here is the situation: I'm VERY GLAD to approve one or several Classified Ads for you to generate orders for this endeavour. And I'm VERY GLAD for you to put a link within this thread to that classified ad. But I WILL NOT tolerate your slamming any moderator for just trying to do his job. If you find that unacceptable, please let me know.
I know we don't always get the "moderation" just right, but please understand that moderators are volunteers. They are truck enthusiasts who volunteer their time to try to keep the TDR website a very informative, relatively organized and sane place to hang out and learn from others. I - for one - SINCERELY APPRECIATE AND VALUE everything they do - even if they do it differently than I would.
