Hello everybody,i'm new to the forum and could use some help.I recently purchased a 99 ram 2500 cummins 5 speed 4/4,I started having trouble with loopy idle and then it dies, starts good when cold and runs great on the road with no miss or power issues but after u drive it for 30 to 40 miles and pull in some where and shut off and come back to the truck and start it ,it will start and idle up and down between 400 to 500 rpms about 7 times and then it dies.It may do this 1 time and then start like it should or it my do it 10 times in a row before it starts correctly,I read some of the threads and a couple pointed me to the crank sensor,so I had a friend bring his scan tool over and scan it,it had a 1693 and 1694 code and from what I could find it came back to the crank sensor, put a new one on from cummins, drove it all this week to work and it did fine ,took a little trip today about 40 miles and stopped to eat and came back out and it started the same thing,it does have the same problem with the wait to start light like a lot of the other threads talk about on these models ,could this be a programming issue or computer .I have a fuel pressure gauge order for it but for know all i could find locally was a gauge that I can screw in the top of the filter housing, its range is 0-15 and its pegging the needle all the way back to 0,could to much pressure cause my problem, the previous owner put an after market lift pump on the frame rail, not sure what brand it is .any help thanks

Lots of potential possibilities.

Fuel is bleeding down
Corrosion on the VP44 connector
Bad ground connection
Flaky ASD relay
Tone ring on the crank is coming loose.
Cam sensor

I'd check for codes again.
