A/C Evaporator

My A. C Evap has laid down over the winter. The sytem can dump 80% of the charge in 5 minutes. We ran dye through the sytem, and used a snapon sniffer. everything under the hood looks fine. I saw "We" because when I couldn't find anything, I had one of the old hands at work come over and check the truck out. The only thing I even remotely found was when the sniffer went off while I had it stuck into the lower floor vents in the cab.



Is this a normal failure for a 3rd gen?

Is there an article on pulling the dash like the 2nd gens have?

Not a normal failure, and it is time consuming but not that difficult to do. The technicians that have done a few of the recirc doors are averaging about 40 minutes to change one. The evaporator will take longer , but is still not that bad. There are several write ups that cover the procedure. Take it slow and you should be able to do it in a day. The secret to doing it faster is to not remove the dash completely, but to roll it back and tie the passenger side back further than the driver side.

40 min eh?? I just read a run through of what's involved. That time would be impressive.



I did the heater core in my 2nd gen last year so I knew what to expect. It's just harder to find the fasteners if you don't know where to look.



I also read a post where the accumulator has failed... i'm going to check mine over shortly.



It's just depressing. The a/c would make your eyebrows go numb last summer. I tried to kick it on sunday evening and the compressor wouldn't cycle. . I knew what was wrong. . I just can't find the leak.

My evap was replaced due to a leak. The tech told me it was not real common, but that he had done several of them.
