Yeah I tow with mine and it works great, so what. I still pay $125 to fill it up several times a week. When I first got my '03 cummins, diesel was the cheapest and it was like $40 to fill it up.



I like my Cummins but I think Dodge sucks! What happens if you get locked out of your truck? Ford has a keypad and Chevy has Onstar. It took Dodge all the years till the MegaCab to put a fullsize backseat in, when Ford and Chevy have had it forever! My truck rides like crap! I have to lower my tire pressure excessivley to get down the road, when a Chevy glides over everything! How long does it take to change a light bulb in a Dodge vrs a Chevy? 20 min. vrs 5 min. that's because the Chevy headlight assembly pulls out with the removal of one pin. In the Dodge you have to romove 3 Torx bolts per headlight! Next truck: 06 Duramax. And don't try to say your Dodge is faster, Duramaxes are lighter, higher revving and overall faster. That's why Clint of ATS drives one.

I recently purchased my third Dodge Cummins. I put a combined 550,000 miles of towing use on my two previous Rams with no problems other than basic service replacements and minor repair. I have observed and talked with lots of owners of high mileage Dodges, GMs, and Fords. I wouldn't own anything else but my Dodge with Cummins engine.



You don't need our permission to sell or trade your Dodge. Feel free to dispose of it anyway you choose and buy whatever you prefer. So long.

I personally don't think diesel is quite high enough.



All the truckers and lots of RVers are still driving at 75mph and if you drive in town it is still a race to see who can get to the next stop light quicker. Truckers are complaining:-{} If they would slow down to 65 over the long haul they would save a bundle.

The last time I checked the price for fuel it was the same if you were filling up a nasty old Dodge or one of those wonderful GM products. As to milage it seems that the more horsepower mods you have and the more aggressive you drive, the lower the mpg.



I found there are many ways to unlock a vehical. A spare key hidden on the vehical still works as does a spare remote in my coat pocket. Either of these solutions do NOT have a monthly fee associated with them. With a TomTom and a cell phone I can make it from point A to point B without Onstar.



The bottom line is that the artificial low fuel price we have enjoyed in the past is gone. Until we start drilling offshore of Florida, build a few more refineries, and support the dollar, we will continue to see the price of fuel go up.



Good luck with that 450 hp, 1000 ft lb, 35 mpg duramax. Oh, you might want to buy the extended warrantee.

So this thread was started on 4/9/07. It is now almost a year later. Diesel has risen to painful levels. And you're still driving your Dodge? Have there been no Chevys for sale in the last year?:-laf



Yep, diesel costs a lot, but for the price of a new or used Prius, I can buy a lot of diesel, haul my family more comfortably, tow my trailer, and get in an accident without being squished. (OK, I haven't tried that last one yet. ) I, too, will stick to the Cummins.

Then go buy a POS Chevy and get off the board...

Sounds like you would make a great Chevy guy anyways.

Changing the headlights would be just about the only thing easier to do on a GM.

Sorry to say ChrisKringle but if you mod the snot out of your GM like you did your 04. 5 then be prepared to be at least if not more unhappy than you were with the Cummins, you said it yourself with your first post how good your un-modded 03 was. You play you pay.

What is up with that? Its not like you don't believe the CTD can get 20 is it? have you forgot what your un modded 03 was capable of?

My 03 would get over 20mpg. I loved it.

Well since this thread is reawakend, I'll give my 2 cents.



If you bought a Cummins to drive to work only then you have probably wasted some money. you should have bought a VW diesel for milage.



When you buy a Cummins it is presumeably for where loads and trailers are used.



BTW, in the 80's and 90's i had two Chevette diesels. These were the best darn cars one could ask for for milage and maint. Loved em. Also had a Rabbit diesel, loved it also although it did not have the performance the Chevettes had.



With a family that required 7 vehicles on the road those diesels really paid off!!

All that is why your mileage is awful, When I had an 04. 5 All I put on it was Bully Dog and got 21 empty(Ram 3500 Dually 4x4 Auto)and 18 with a 12,000 5ver. By the way when you get your Gasser, put those huge tires on it and see where your fuel mileage goes. LOL

Too funny! I will never own a daily driver truck without a diesel. I still grin ear to ear getting into my 04. 5 every day. I get better gas mileage towing 7200 lbs (16 mpg) than I did with my old 97 Dodge 1500 360 V8 (12-14 on highway unloaded, 7-8 with the boat). Power, economy, power, shear size, power, mileage, power, status and oh yeah, did I mention power???:-laf Time for Santa to hit the road!

I agree that is much better. We will know when our freedom is gone. Will we know how to keep it? We only kept it by one vote last June when our Supreme court upheld the Second Amendment 5 to 4. Four members of the Supreme Court allowed their personal feelings to interfere with what they were put there to do--protect our constitution, each and every part of it including the Second Amendment. I hear your crying and there is some truth and some not. I have a 1999 and 145,000, all stock, and it has served me well. I do not understand diesel owners as they first want to raise power and be the big dog. If everyone just stayed stock, maybe a few reliability items as a replacement, no one would be having these issues. Yes , diesel went way up in price and do you know why? Iraq my friend, what does all those military machines run on? Hint, diesel. So the truth item is are politics is so low causing this. The Cummins is well built engine used properly. So there.

I did not start this thread but have followed it with interest. All I can say is for some it may not be practical if you are a real penny pincher. I could be in that category but I have enjoyed my 98 Ram 12v Q-Cab 2 wheel and if it cost me more I really don't care. Haven't done much to the engine but there have been some good add-ons. By-Pass oil filter, Horton fan clutch. Sun Coast torque converter, gear Vendor, Rear Air Bags and the wonderful EGR drum to disc conversion. Almost forgot the Aluminum wheels and I did change the steering box to the 3 turn instead of the 4&1/4. I, with all the add-ons, enjoy driving it and will not trade it in on a new one--it will out last me. Had I bought a Gas Job I could have done the towing that I do but would have no doubt traded it in a couple of times and that is expensive. Because I kept my Diesel I saved that trade in expense. I am tempted to say for me it has been 6 to 1 and a half dozen to the other. I don't care enough to get out my fancy calculator and try to be exact. If I had it to do again I would. I would just make the changes sooner. For me they made a big difference. Best Regards
