Dodge's New V-10 Diesel

I'd stand in line for a small diesel with 4WD.

(Forget spare tires. I'd just tow my spare vehicle!)

Guys

better read the article again. The diesel Liberty is for international markets, not domestic. You will not see one here unless it's on a long range road test.

It said "may" test market in US. And "In an interview at the Chicago Auto Show last week, Schaum said the company will decide by year end whether to test market a diesel engine in U. S. versions of the Liberty. "

I'm not holding my breath, but don't dash my dreams! (plus, I'm hoping public interest (aka, us talking about it) might play a small role to move them in the "right" direction!

We weren't planning to replace our 96 Interpid ES until after my CTD Ram was paid off. But if they came out with a limited addition diesel in the LIberty, we'd change out plans quickly.

There has been legislation proposed in Congrass that would force auto manufactures to drastically increase average fuel ecomony for their fleets. This legistaltion will effectively eliminate SUV's from the market, that is unless they have diesels in them.

and why NOT? If you watch formula 1 one the motorsports channels look for how many european tracks have ad banners for diesel Toyota RAV-4's!!! Hmmm, intriguing!! Maybe they ARE smarter than us!!

Take a trip to Europe, rent a few different diesels like a BMW, a MB, an Opel, A V8 Audi, a 150HP 6speed Golf, a 3 cylinder VW Lupo TDI @ 100mpg, then come home and throw rocks at the idiots keeping these from our roads. Suprise suprise, we need a government that will look honestly at REAL air pollution problems, and an oil industry that will quit whining and start shipping a quality diesel fuel.

OK OK I'm calming down now... I'll take my medication.

diesel Jeep

Oh man. I just bought my wife a new buick. I'd really like a Jeep with a diesel and I think she would too. Might be tuff to try trading the 02 LeSabre but I'm game to try.

I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope... .

We have a subaru forester, but we would really like a Liberty.

The sad thing is, all of the Liberty's are made in the US at the same plant, even the diesel ones. Here's a no brainer. 15city/18 hwy reported for gas model Liberty's vs. 20ish city/24ish hwy reportedly for the diesel model.

duh!:--)

BUt this goes completely against our governmental plans. We're secretly trying to plate Greenland with heavy metals (from catalytic convertors - search scientific journals, Discover, etc. ) THEN when its thick enough we will turn the entire island (subcontinent, whatever) into a deep space radiotelescope to phone the aliens!!:p

Most americans are spoiled & closed-minded..

Face it, if the price of gas in the US was equal

to what the Europeans have to pay, there would

be an outcrying for more fuel efficient options.

Part of the problem is the bad taste that remains

after the "diesel debacle" of the 80's thanks to

GM and the 5. 7 "converted Olds" diesel flop.

Most Americans are not open minded enough to

accept the fact that diesel engines produce less

polution than gasoline burning engines, and are

almost twice as efficient!

SO, the GOVT's agenda is to increase MPG by

raising the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy)

for the major auto manufacturers, which in turn

are forced to comply by reducing the weight of

vehicles (smaller overall size, lighter/thinner

materials) and weaker, smaller engines that use

less fuel and put out less pollutants. Who pays

for this "technology"? We do in the sticker price

of the resultant vehicle. Scary stuff what we

have to look forward to in the US from the major

auto makers.

Never mind. I think I just lost interest. Jeep Liberty ~22 mpg??? Heck, I can slow down to 65 and routinely bust 20 mpg in my full size Dodge. So 24 highway in a mini-box doesn't really get my attention! :(

Jeep Liberty diesel

Well if those numbers are accurate, I wouldn't be interrested in a Jeep Liberty. My wife drives a Buick LeSabre and gets about 20 in all around driving. I was hoping to put her in a 4x4 and get better milege. Lotttttts better. :p :(

Jeep Liberty

No, I didn't see the roll-over tests. What were they? Bad, I presume or you wouldn't have brought it up.

Life is good, live on the edge go fast.

happy trails to ya.

As a stead fast Jeep fanatic, I can honestly say that I had my problems when the Liberty first came out becasue it replaced a perfectly good Cherokee platform with solid front axles..... I have come to accept it as a Jeep none the less, and it has actually some what grown on me as far as the looks...

But,,,,from what I have seen on the construction of the vehicle and from what my good friend (paint and body guy) told me, they are not the safest vehicle to be in, in a crash... He told me they basically disintegrate... and I'm not trying to rain on any Liberty owners parade here, I'm just telling what I have been told.

As for the diesel, Jeep, Toyota, Suzuki, and a large number of other manufacturers have diesel engines in their 4X's in other countries and it has always driven me nuts that I can't find a good diesel to transplant into my 82 Scrambler... I would love to have the torque and relaibility of a diesel, especially here in the smeltering state of Texas (since heat doesn't affect a diesel as much as a gas engine)...

Unfortunately, the cummings is just too big to put in a Jeep, the weight alone would cause me fits, and the smaller VW diesels are too small and have no adapter support in the Jeep community. I have heard of cummings transplants into Jeeps and would love to see one and find out how it handles on the trail,,,,

Otherwise, if Jeep would make a more scaled down version of the diesel that is inbetween the small and big, it would be great,,,,I have heard rumors and I'm sure someone here can either substantiate them or shoot them out of the water about Dodge planning on a smaller diesel to put in Dakota's and Durango's... my guess would be that if its true, its the same one thats going in the Liberty...

Either way I would have to wait a few years at least for the price to fall enough on wrecked ones for me to be able to afford one... :{
