I dove into the cowl cracks today when I got home. Actually not too bad of a job. I am buzzing the cracks back with the mig and making my own repair patches. I have them all done and the pass side back together.

Now I am trying to straighten out the wiring nightmare the PO had done on it. There must be 10 wires coming through the firewall and a wad under the dash. I have a Painless add on kit that I am trying to straighten everything out with. I will be hooking up my brake controller in place of the walmart special that is on it now. Next is to seal up the vent on the drivers side. Any ideas on how to seal it up? I am going to order carpet or a rubber mat for the old girl for Christmas. Just want to seal it up so it doesn't leak. Thinking of a new transmission cooler while I have the grill off too.

Does it ever stop? :)

No it doesn't stop.

Do not buy the J. C. Whiteny carpet kits. They do not fit worth anything. Check a local trim shop or buy from the dealer.

I have also used the rubber replacement floor mats from there. They fit good or the ones I got for a GM trucks fit good.

Dang and I was going to order through JCW. Oh well I've ordered carpet kits through oRileys before and had good luck with them too. I may try again.

Man what a difference. I went to work this morning and no squeeks, rattles (except for the good ones) or drafts. All in all it was very easy to do the hardest part for me was the wiring redo. It was a mess but it looks good now just need to pick up a little split loom and it will be done.

Don't be afraid to tackle this repair (cowl cracks) it is fairly easy but looks intimidating. Very good way to spend a little quality time with the truck. ;)

The last time I ordered a carpet kit from J. C. it was for a 78 W250. I ordered the best kit they had listed. The tunnel section of the carpet was about 12" wider than the truck tunnel was. So needless to say I have not tried anymore of the carpet kits.

My brother bought one for a 76 C30 chevy a year later and it fit worse than the Dodge kit did.

The crack(s) repairm is on my to do list. At present time I gotta have..... need..... ok... "want" more power :) Shinny aluminum wheels and patched cowl cracks don't make it go faster, but I hate the creaks and squeaks they are making.

Nope, it never stops. When it does we (I) move on to a different hobby.

I'm hoping Philip will get them cracks of mine fixed next October.

I hear ya and I would like to some bigger tires, shiney wheels and more power too. But everyone wants that green stuff that I seem to be lacking right now. I only spent about $10 and a 12 pack on the cowl cracks. :)

I just about have the cab off my 91. Just enough stuff still hooked up to be able to drive in/out of the garage for now. It's got cowl cracks, then there's the rotted rockers, and the ever popular holes through the roof around the drip channel. Not sure if I'm gonna fix this cab or just put a different one on. I've have been kicking around the idea of chopping it a few inches, that would make the job just that little bit more exicting. Who knows, it finally snowed up here so I need a garage project for winter.

As for carpet, call around. Companys like Year One or Legendary (among others) have some real nice products, I've used their stuff on restoration projects. Won't be the cheapest but it fits and is usually real nice stuff.

Later,

Wayne
