A little help from my friends

Just called and found that my 2001 QC LB HO is in KZM status. It should be here in a week or two I guess. I know it isn't a major thing but I'd like the disk brakes. The change over (if it occurs) will be in July I guess, meaning mine won't have the disks. This is where I need a little advice. Should I go through with this order and just take it or should I hold out for the disks? What is the policy for rejecting an order anyway? Appreciate any insights.

They shouldn't give you any problems canceling an order. My dad cancelled two orders in 98 before taking delivery on one. Part of the problem was the dealer. They kept telling him they could take orders on 24v, but they weren't available yet.

My understanding is that the official policy is that you loose your deposit if you don't take delivery of a custom order. This varys a bit btwn dealers and given the situation your dealer may allow you to change.

The other option is to have it delivered to Evan's dealer and have the lot-boy drive it into a post. Then you don't have to worry about re-ordering.

My dealer loves it when I special order a truck because its normally something he can't get in, so when I don't take it sells within a week. I've never ever put a deposit down on a new order. If the rear disc are that important to ya then thats what you need to get. Your dealer will have no problem selling the truck you ordered. These Cummins don't sit on the lot here very long. .

I just spoke to a Dodge dealer and he said that the 2001. 5's will indeed have 4 wheel anti locking disk brakes as standard equipment. This is for 2500's and 3500's. Since I didn't put any deposit on the 2001, I may wait and order the 2001. 5. The $ factor may play a part though with this $1000 off the 2001's, I would suspect there will be around a 2K difference and I don't know that the disks are worth that much. Anyway, thanks guys.

Hey Benson, I would wait for the Rear Disc brakes. (Haddad, Fooie!) In about a year I will change mine over to Rear Disc's, Was that "other" dealer in Taft?.

Yep, that "other" dealer was the dealer in Taft. They may become my new dealer.
Mick, that info I received was via the phone so I have no hard copy evidence of the changes. I would like to get a copy myself. If I do, I can scan the goods for ya. Course, you can't order a 2001. 5 quite yet.

I drove the new Silverado 2500 with 4 wheel disks and antilock. I did not like the brake feel, pedal was too sensitive and would have the truck swapping ends in wet or icy conditions in a panic stop while cornering even with antilock imo. I agree pads are easier to maintain, but just because it's 4 wheel disks does not automatically make it better. Same as with synthetic oil. jmo...
