That's not why the threads were closed. I closed them because there's speculation on and questions being asked on why Bill was removed from the site. We have given out as much information as we are going to. Noone knows the facts of what happened except for Bill and ourselves. Out of respect for Bill's contributions to the site we will NOT discuss those. Bill cannot defend himself and we will not discuss them so any speculation is just that - speculation and does noone any good. If you have issues you wish to discuss with us you can reach myself at -- email address removed -- or Robin at rpatton@ix.netcom.com .

Look, this is NOT a democracy, it is run as the owners see fit. What is hard to understand about that? Did Bill help lots of members, yes. Did everybody like him, no.

Nothing will come from any this. :)

i don't have issues. i didn't ask you to discuss anything. thanks.

Were one to use your post that opened this thread as a gauge, one might conclude that you do have at least *one* issue.

I believe the horse that was being flogged was long dead. And the skin completely flayed off.

i am taking this all into account as i have yet to renew my expiring membership... ...

all the childishness is why i stopped going to meets..... now maybe i'll stay off da boards too... and save $34 a year

Thank You Bill for the effort you have given to support this site and membership! It was obvious to me that you took great pleasure from being a TDR member and I sympathize with your loss, and ours. You will be greatly missed!

In my opinion political discussions should be banned on this site. I payed my money to support the TDR for its wealth of diesel knowledge, not to fund someones right to express their political opinion. Political discussions are usually emotionally heated and, even if you choose not to participate, the friction created by these discussions invariably spills over into the rest of the forum. The place for political opinions is at the voting box, not on the TDR. Maybe it's time to change the policies and get back to the reasons why we all joined! JMO

Wlowe,

Well said! I agree with what you said about the site being for diesel info and not political agendas. We'll see what comes out of all this.

Nobody makes anybody read the "Other" section. Nobody makes anybody participate in a thread. If you're not comfortable discussing hotbutton topics I'd stay away from those areas.

I like political discussion, even though I'll never change CF's or illflem's mind, it's always interesting to hear other points of view.

Boomer II,

Excellent reply! Taken in its limited context, I totally agree. Wasn't it a great philosopher who once said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"? Oh yea, that's right, he wasn't a philosopher, great movie though. :)

I seem to recall that the "transmission War" threads were banned because of all the animosity and problems they created. Lost a few members over those threads too. Not attacking brother, just stating the facts.

I guess I missed the other wars. I've been in the middle of some pretty nasty BB wars on other boards, learned from them, and have pretty much figured out how to conduct myself in the cyber world. I always try to treat people the way I would if we were in the same room, anybody can be a keyboard commando. There's not much you can do about the people that leave, some will come back, some won't.

Illflem made an enormous contribution to this site. His knowledge helped me many times, and helped countless others many times also. Personally I was stunned about what happened. Bill's absence has lessened the value of the TDR for me.

Will be missed!

What rrausch said x 100. Still can't believe it.

Only one thing I always wondered about him is,how could he do so many things around the farm and still get all those posts answered helping members? Someday maybe I will get to meet him.

Tim

well I missed what all the hoopla was about, but think its a loss to this site if illflem was booted off.

I got to meet Bill this past summer when I flew up to Missoula for a few days I invited him over for breakfast to meet in person and thourouhly enjoed that.

Bill made demands of me. His expectations were not met.

Subsequently, he took actions based on his personal dissatisfaction. Those actions were unacceptable. Bill's remaining subscription has been refunded, and he will not be returning to the TDR website.

I think most of you are missing this fact. Bill made demands on Robin. Those demands were not met. He then took further actions on the forums which were unacceptable. His subscription was then refunded. He will not be returning. Out of respect for the contributions Bill made to the site over the years we will not go into further discussion or detail.

It is a loss to this site and we were more stunned than you could imagine that it came to this. As said above however, out of respect for Bill we will not go into further discussion or detail as to what happened. Unforetunately, Bill is gone and there's nothing that we can do to change that.

I never met Bill in person but exchanged views with him a few tlmes regarding the CTD. I cannot say whether I would or would not like him as a person but I can say I do respect him for his experience and knowledge and his willingness to help anyone.

I always enjoyed reading his comments as they were usually based on personal experience and were given freely with no apparent expectations of praise or reward.

I have stated before and I will say again that I am very sorry to see him, or his adversary for that matter, being banished from the forum in such a manner. That action itself has tarnished my view of the forum in that I will never have the opportunity to hear their side of the story. Only that it was done for good reason and that it is final.

How to put out a flame

I posted on a political thread not too long ago and a guy who shared my basic viewpoint called me a whiner for a remark I made about haw higher taxes could hurt my ability to help with my daughter's education. I sent him a PM about our family situation and how proud I am of my daughter's athletic and academic abilities -- and even asked him for advice since he worked his way through school.

I received a well thought out apology and feel I made a new friend. I really did not care if he apologized, But I just wanted him to know a little more about a worried father and a kid who deserves more than I can give her.

I have made posts that I wish I could take back-- some that were not well thought out and some that were taken the wrong way. Sometimes I think people get so blinded by political party allegiance that they are like basketball fans-- the only bad calls the referees make are against their team.

I expect this kind of thing[name calling] from politicians-- they do not belong to the real world where they pay for stuff with their own money. When they hire guys like Lee Atwater[Repub] and James Carville [Dem] ,reason goes out the window.

I think that TDR people are better than politicians. Send the ''flamethrower'' a reasoned PM . If he is still blinded by his rage toward you, then you will not change his mind by getting back at him on a public forum. Write it off and repeat three times--I am here because of my CUMMINS- Merry Christmas

I usually don't comment on this page, just read, and get anode and leave. My free will.

My question, Has there ever been any retribution done to those that have caused the Flame, to raise the iror of those that join in, that loose it through the discussions to make there point. i have seen a number of persons on here get on people and make RUDE comments to them, i could see it if they knew them. It happened to me a couple times, these guys don't know me from Adam.

There are alot of good guys that have been run off to the OTHER forums, and they are respected there.

To bad this happened to Bill. Did not know that this had happened to him. I respected his judgment and, never met him, but considered him a good friend though the forums.

But then again, we need to find our place in this society, and sometimes roll with the tide.

just my penny's worth.

Marv.
