Yup, the red buttons do both the things mentioned above. They allow you to read the peak values that are automatically retained until you clear them. Let's say you are tinkering with the engine and you want to see if you've made an improvement. Just check the boost level then go for a drive and recheck. If the boost level is higher then you must have done something right.
And the red buttons are used to program the gauge functions. You have outputs that can be set to your liking. Maybe you want to turn on a propane system or water injection at a preset egt level. No prob! You have warning lights that can be set to come on at for instance low fuel pressure levels.
The red buttons are also used for clearing the peaks, changing the units of measurement, average refresh rate etc. IMO a lot of features in a gauge.
