A question for you turbo guys.

I have an opportunity to obtain an HX35W turbo really cheap. The problem is that it has been through a fire and the turbine is locked. My first question is if this turbo will be rebuildable. My second question is if this will make a good candidate for my truck(see sig) after I install the second gen intercooler and plumbing. I'm normally running empty back and forth to work, when I do pull it normally is forage wagons below 30mph or the wood wagon with 3-5 cords of wood on it. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Paul,
The turbos are rebuildable, What you're going to end up buying is a "cartridge", thats the center section complete. All you'll need (use) off of the old turbo is the exh and compressor housings. The question is how cheap is cheap. I'm not sure about the compressor side but exh housings are usually around 100$. As to intercoolers, I don't have one so I'm gonna leave that one to someone with better smarts on that subject. .

The fire temperatures may have warped the compressor housing as it is a lighter material than the exhaust housing. Make sure the compressor impellors haven't contacted the compressor housing on disassembly. You may be lucky enough to just replace the cartridge.
