A.R.E. MX/CX Shell Rear Door, Opinions?

I am in the market for a camper shell. I am looking at the A. R. E. MX & CX models and would like to hear from anyone who has either considered or purchased one.

The MX & CX models have an optional walk-in door (tailgate removed) that allows easy access plus the entire back panel of the shell swings up easily for greater access.

For those of you with one, what is your experience with fit, finish, and durability?

For those of you who considered one but didn't purchase, what was the deciding factor that turned you away?

Thx in advance.

Rtruvell,

You are in luck. I just got my MX/walkthru door installed a week ago. I really like it. Fit and finish are good to very good. (not quite as nice as the stockland that is on my 01 but close). The walk thru door is the ticket. Based on past experience, order 2 interior 12vt lights and you get better interior lighting.

I havn't developed the pics yet but soon.

Best regards

DD

I've got the ARE MX with the door your talking about. I love it. From what I've read, here and on other sites, most people have been very happy with ARE.

I chose the flush side windows for the clean look. If there was a better way/look to have the contractor windows that swing open, I'd get those. I just don't like the handles.

The dealer wouldn't tint the rear window of the walk through door. Said it was a legal issue. Its not dark enough and allows an easy look into the contents of the truck bed.

The only thing I wish was different was how the canopy meets the truck bed. There is a little piece of trim thats painted to match everything else. Snug top does a much better finish job in this area on the dodge trucks. There were enough rumors/stories of poor fitting snugtop canopies that I wasn't willing to take the risk.

Good luck with the search.

RTuvell,

I've had an MX ARE on mine for 3 years now with no complaints. All hardware and finish has held up well. It gets waxed twice a year and the paint match is great. I did not go with the lift gate option as I didn't really need that feature. If I remember right, it was a little more $$ than I wanted to spend. It looks great on the truck, especially with a TDR sticker on the back window :D

Good luck...

It may be more than you want to spend, but I recently posed a similar question. I'm not buying one until after I sell my car, but these guys are it... . click here

Scroll to the end...

They're pretty close to us and I've heard they have great customer support.

I have the cx and mx model topper both are very good only problem would be that the mx has the window across the top it leaks but it can be resealed. I bought the cx because I wanted the smooth look. If anyone in FL is interested in the mx model pm me. Make sure you get the fold down window option only cost $150. 00 worth every penny to keep the windows clean.
