Don't ask where it's been

I'm having a hard time seeing through my tears, but like others have said, what an honor that you have shared this with us. As Christians, when we grieve, we grieve with hope. When the two of you see each other again, it will be an awesome reunion! Thanks for sharing this and you and your family and his will be in my prayers.

Loss

Thank you for sharing the story of our countries loss of a fine citizen and your personal friend.

One of my last responsibilities before retiring from the Army was Burial Details.

The family grave site ceremony is an event of respect, honor and emotion. A tough day that will remain forever in the minds eye of this Christian mans family and friends.

We pray for our soldier grandson, and all the troops as well as our President, daily.

Anyone who lives or dies in combat is a hero to me. God bless your and his family and every other soldier (and family) out there!

After talking with his wife at the funeral I found out that one of the last things he did was an organized toy drive. He had members of his church gather toys and ship them over to Iraq so his unit could deploy them to the local kids. Something about a kid not having a toy really bothered him.

It was the first military burial I have attended. Fascinating but extremely somber (other than the fact that he was my friend).

Several of the guys on the detail had attended basic with Rodney and were shedding tears as they marched the body over the gravesite.

On a side note, my wife told one of her friends that had just returned from france, about his death, and she displayed a total lack of class and said "Just one more reason we should hate being in Iraq right now"

Not sure why people have to discount a sacrifice made by an individual whom felt and wholeheartedly believed we are doing the right thing.

Wow Sean, I just read through this whole post.

My sympathies to you, and Rodney's Family. I talked to your Dad about it, and it truly is a sad situation.

I'm glad you were able to attend his funeral.

May God Bless, and comfort Rodney's Family and yours.
