my ABS light and brake light are on and the speedometer jumps all around, I already replaced the sensor on top of the rear axle. Does anybody know what else could cause this?
Check for chafed wiring where the wires go from the frame to the axle. If the wiring checks ok you may have to open the differential and check out the tone ring.
Finally figured out why my brake and ABS lights were on forever. I wasn't tipped off to the real problem until the speedo started acting weird.
There is whats called a WSS or wheel speed sensor mounted in the top of the rear differential. It sends an AC signal to the ABS controller and also the speedo. This gizmo replaced the old style VSS or vehicle speed sensor. It must have been sending an erratic signal that proggressively got worse. After I replaced it, the lights went out and the speedo works fine.
