Hi, I have got a 1997 5 speed 4X4 and am having a problem with my ABS and Brake dash lights coming on. I researched it on this site and first thought it was the speed sensor in the rear diff, but when this goes bad does it blow the brake light fuse too? I replaced the fuse and it will blow whenever I touch the brakes, so I am thinking it is a short somewhere. Any thought/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jason Orr

Yep, sounds like a short to me too. I had the exact problem when I re-attached the 6-way plug that was already in the bed when I got the truck. Turns out there was a damaged wire leading to that plug that was shorting out. Probably why it was un-hooked. Everytime I would hit the brakes the fuse would blow and the brake light and ABS light would come on.

I just ran new wire and installed a 7 way plug and bought an adapter for the 6 way.

First thing I would check would be any trailer light wiring. If that's not it, dig deeper.

I know that this is an old run, but did you ever gitter fixed? Was it a short-to-ground? I am having the same problem - i have the whole darned truck tore up & still poppin fuses like hot corn! Hope you made fix.
