The AC on my 2002 is not blowing very cold air. The compressor is engaging and one of the AC lines going to the firewall is very cold to the touch and dripping with condensation. I haven't put my gauge on it yet, but I'm betting it's charged with freon ok. I also noticed it isn't dripping near as much as it has in the past when it cooled really well, and it has been plenty humid here in the Tulsa, OK area lately. I'll check the charge with my gauge later, but any other ideas will help.

Thanks,

Lance

Check the a/c drain to make sure it is not partially plugged.

If one line is cool/cold the other should be warm/hot. Cool and warm is not good. And that's about all I know about a/c.

With temps in high 90s the compressor should run almost canstantly with the engine idling. If it is cycling often then the charge is probably low. Only other thought is maybe the blend air door, might try cycling it from cool to heat the baack to cool and see if there is any change. bg

I'm not sure when the clutch cycling switch was omitted but I'm thinking it was 03. Systems with the switch, when the compressor cycles 10 times per minute there is a problem. On later years ther is a thermister on the face of the evaporator that cycles the compressor to keep the evaporator from icing over. Rule of thumb, I don't know? If the outside temp is high nineties or above and the compressor is cycling at all at idle unless it is very cool in cab there is a problem. bg

Thanks

Ive had to recharge mine every year for the last few years. And the last couple of years Ive had to do it twice (once in late spring and again in late summer)

When I had it serviced last year at goodyear, they said it was the compressor and gave me a quote. (I didnt want them working on my truck so I didnt take them up on that). I then had my son in law scan it with a black lite. Nothing. So this year I had the a/c serviced at the shop that I have to oil changes on my mg. (they work on all kinds of euro cars and also do a/c). I had them check the evaperator as well where they found no leak. They did find a leak at a valve and replace that ($5 part). So IM looking forward to seeing if that (hoping) has been the problem all along.

Lance, even if it's partially charged, it will cause condensate on the lines and dryer, after the orifice tube. It still may not cool as it's supposed to, so putting the guages on it is the best way to tell what's going on. I've seen several that cooled fine on the driver side, but the passenger always complained that they were hot..... a drop charge of 8-12oz and all is well on the pass side... ... On one, this is after the customer had spent two weeks pulling the dash apart to try and look for broken blend doors..... :-laf He was happy to have it fixed, but PO'ed at himself for not going after the simplier things first.....
