Anyone ever use this stuff?

lubegard 96030 kool-it evaporator and heater foam cleaner

Wondering how it would work to clean my evap coils and condensor to get better cooling and air flow in the truck.

I read that If i pull the blower motor and remove the glove box I should be able to somewhat see the evap coils without removing the dash. is this true? I know that I can spray this stuff on the condenser at the front of the truck and just rinse off with a hose if i wanted too.

truck just rolled 200k miles yesterday and while the air still blows really cold it doesn't blow very hard. I am going to have it checked out by pep boys tomorrow but wondering if this might help the overall system.

There's no doubt a clean coil will perform better. Getting to it is the project. I would pull the blower, check for garbage in the plenum and see if you can get to it first.

When you pull the fan, I believe it is a squirrel cage design be sure to check the fins as they are prone to collect dirt making it less effective in moving air. Had a house like that where the previous owners never cleaned it and the cold air just dropped out of the registers. After I scraped all the dirt out of the fins it would almost blow the doors off.

Yes it is, and you'll use your smartphone to make pictures/videos inside the housing to see what you are doing and check that all is clean.
That's how I did it and it worked pretty well that way.
I used a vacuum cleaner with a 1/2" highly flexible and smooth hose attached to it to suck out the debris. Use a really soft hose for this to don't damage the fins of the evaporator working blindly in the cave.
After the vacuum I used simple green sprayed onto the core to loosen the left over dirt and afterwards the same bottle with pure water to rinse it down.
Great results.

I use a 1" or 1/2" heater hose on a shop vac hose to clean the evaporators. I cut the end at an angle and it allows me to get to the bottom where a lot of dirt falls down. Then after making sure the drain is open (not clogged) Then I apply 409, simple green, or and evap cleaner product. Then I use a garden hose and sprayer in short bursts. Aka being careful not to flood the pan faster than the drain can let the water out.

I have had the GM dealer use a evap foam in the past to kill smells... and the side effect is the stuff can reek all by itself long term. At least it smells better.

I've been looking for a diaphragm to show me the system so that I know what I am looking at and where. Any one got one or any luck finding one? I know that If I remove the blower motor and look up I can see the honeycomb but I can't reach my hand anywhere inside towards the driver side where I imagine the evap coils and stuff are. Also, you mentioned water hose inside the truck, where is the drain for the pan?

Some coil cleaners are acidic which is fine on the HVAC unit for your house or a coil you can thoroughly rinse. I don't know that I'd spray it on the evaporator in the housing.

I questioned that and the one I posted and maybe all the no rinse it was stated the natural condensation on the coil carries the crud to the drain. I was asking about the normal stuff I would use that required to have a rinse and the foaming that did not require a rinse. My personal thought is the rinseable would clean better but I would have the chance of crap running into the RV. I am definately not an authority on this so that is why I posted it on a RV forum and how satisfied and if anyone has used the foaming no rinse. I will not know the results until we go back to Mesa Az. and it cools down enough to work on the roof and not require AC in the RV. Probably after Thanksgiving is the usual start of the cool down.

I just dropped mine to take a look. Not much room in there at all. Was able to stick my phone up in there and get a picture. Not horrible for 65K miles and no filter. A little gunk on the lower left, going to be difficult to get to especially since you can't see up in there and it's a small opening from the fan side

So that's with your blower motor out? I might just pull my pass seat so I can get extra access. Ive got really wide shoulders from playing rugby for a long time and even with my seats all the way back its hard to get angles on things.

Yes. Took me all of 2 minutes to take it out. Just pop the liner out from the underside of passenger side dash (if you have one) and 3 8mm screws holding the fan in. Pulling the seat would complicate the procedure 10 fold but if that's the only way you can get in there I guess you have to.

,

Here is the access to the evap in the back corner. It's a pretty small opening and no way to see in there other then taking a picture with my phone.

Thanks Rider, Ozy, DavidC, Bigpapa for all the help and information. I am going to work on this Friday after work. I have an appointment with a buddy to at least check the freon levels in the truck and then I can work on getting everything clean this weekend until my cabin air filter kit comes in from Geno's garage.

You are talking about the kit that goes into the stock location in your airbox above the fan right? Not the one for the cowling.

Absolutely, best addition ever.
And change it regularly, at least once a year. Preferably in the Fall before the wet season begins.
