Just got back from getting the AC charged and dye put in at the small Dodge dealer where I got my 2005 a couple month ago.
AC is working great right now, 60 mile round trip. Cold out of both passenger side and drivers side vents. It never was cold like this ever since I got the truck

We'll see if it leaks out next couple days.

.

AC report:

Welp,,, Fired up the 05 this afternoon, Wednesday, 8/16/23 and AC NOT working again. Must have leaked out

It was still working Tuesday morning, blowing cold out of the pass side too. Ive Drove the truck alittle everyday. Now wednesday afternoon its leaked out somewhere. Drivers side isnt even blowing cold either

Its been 7 days since the dealer charged and put dye in.

Making a phone call in the morning. The dealer has to get this fixed

Errrrrrr !....

Just buy a cheep Black Light, or borrow one, and look under the hood, at night. Don't waste time and money at the dealership. At least you should know quickly, and you will know where to start the fix.

Dealer he brought from should be making this right for him since stopped working shortly after taking ownership from them.

Would still get a black light/UV light to have for the future. Very useful in finding issues whether it be A/C or oil leak from engine or trans. Got one in my toolbox just in case its needed. Amazing how the UV dyes glow! Lets you pinpoint the leak.

He mentioned it himself in an other thread.

Ahhhh. Makes more sense now.
I would still get a UV Blacklight. Only $11 online. I've had one and gave one to each of the kids, so when we travel, we can look for critters around the bedroom, in hotels, etc. Also, it shows all the stuff you don't want to see on the covers of hotel beds.

I could fix the whole AC issues my self, But I just bought the truck and the deal with the Dodge dealer owner was fix the AC, and service (new oil, filter) auto trans and I will buy the truck... Shook hands on the deal with the dealership owner. They did not fix the AC or forgot, or what ever. So The small dodge dealership is fixing it, to make good on their deal.
Got a appointment Tuesday tomorrow

For my own info, I just Priced checked all AC parts on Rock Auto, compressor, evaporator, dryer, orifice hoses etc etc. anything that could need replacing. All the parts are very reasonable priced. Im going to have them replace the dryer($25)for sure because it is corroded real bad under the peeling powder coat paint

Stay tuned

Got back from the Dealer and Air Conditioning update.

Preveiously, last week after the dealer recharged the AC !st time, I had noticed that the powder coat paint on the dryer/accumulator was bubbled from rust, gently pealed the paint off the bad spot and it was heavily rusted because moister was trapped under that crappy powder coat. Didnt look like it was leaking though, maybe.

At the dealer the mechanic said he saw dye leaking out of the side of the dryer/accumulator. So he replaced the accumulator, and recharged the system. Pretty easy fix. I was only there for 1 hour
No Charge $$$
I hope that the AC is fixed now and no more leaking
AC worked good on the way home

.

You mentioned that you had the AC system charged on August 9th and it was still working on August 15th - failed on August 16th. That means they may or may not have fixed the problem. You won't know until after at least five or six days. So, let us know how it is working..., say, on August 31st?

I do hope it is fixed.

Yeah, Im going to keep monitoring the AC everyday.

You can stand there in the shop and talk to and watch the mechanic work on your truck, small dealership and shop. I didnt watch him every second.
The AC did had dye in it , so I hope the mechanic found all the dye leaks. He said he did , But we'll see.

The mechanics there are pretty good. I watched and chatted with one mechanic doing front 4x4 axle ball joints, and axle u-jounts etc on a 2015 while waiting for the snap-on AC machine computer to do its thing

Did they not pull a vacuum on it first to see if it held. I just replaced my ac system in my 07.5. Replaced compressor, lines, condenser and dryer. I bought a vacum pump and gauge set, put everything together hooked up the gauge set and vacum pump. Pulled a vacuum to the negative and turned off the pump let it set for 1.5hrs and it held a negative vacum. Then I turned the vacum pump back on and let it run for almost 2hrs. To dry the system out, then recharged with 134a Refidgerent to the correct amount and now mine blows close to 40° on max. It was easy to do and cheaper even buying all the stuff rather than take it to a shop.

Leavening the vacuum pump on overnight will not tell you anything. Once you hook up the pump and gauges run the pump till you get a Negative reading on your gauge then once your satisfied with that, then you can turn it off and leave the gauges on overnight, but remember if you have a major temperature change it's gonna affect your readings.
