I was driving to Walmart Yesterday morning and i accelerated through an intersection on a 30 mph school street and the pedal stuck right to the floor. When i picked my foot up the truck took off like a rocket. My first thought was "oh @#$% this is scarry", it wasn't to turn the truck off or push in the clutch. i finally did push in the clutch and the engine went well past redline. i eventually got my foot under the pedal and pulled it back, not easy as i wear a size 15 boot.

I drove straight to the dealer and told them what happened. the old fart told me they were all booked up and all the technicians were at lunch and asked if i wanted to make an appointment. i told him not to bother and left. the good thing is i can't get it to duplicate and assume it was a freak accident.

Note: It was in the 20's but it was my second trip of the morning and there was nothing that could have wedged in the pedal assembly.

It is all electronic. There is no cable, just wires that control the throttle. I am guessing it did not throw a code?

Question... do these trucks throw codes for revving past redline like his did??

there is a rev limiter I do not see how you could hurt anything... Sounds like a misalighned pedal or something maybe got up in the pedal and got stuck as others said none of the 05's have a cable.

i know there is no cable. it didn't throw a code. i wonder if something got worn and caught on something else. maybe the grease wore off? i don't know. my truck has just under 18,000 miles and still loving it.

My 02 did this once or twice. I think the top of the pedal gets stuck under the rubber mat I put on the floor. I keep moving the mat to prevent it. yes its scary

This same thing happened to me when my truck was new, and I was comming on a red light. I didn't know what to do. I just pushed the brake hard and the pedel came up just in time to stop. I called the dealer where I got it (65 miles away) and the drove a 1500 chevy to me and then drove my pickup themselves to the dealer. The just took the part they needed off of a new truck in the lot and I got my truck back later that day, which was good because I don't know how much longer I could drive that chevy (a car with a pickup body, haha)

Well, not quite. Remember there's a cable between the pedal and the APPS unit under the driver's side battery. That cable could have a bind in it...

i wish more dealers would have a CANN PIG (Im USMC Helo Mech, let alone in Maintenance Control, Cann pig = spare parts) so they can get rides on the road in a heartbeat. i test drove an 04. 5 when i bought mine... spedo didnt work... . they didn thave the part so they went and got another one via dealer swap. cool, works for me... BUT it took 5 more hours of my time (granted i test drove EVERYTHING on the lot) see the truck that is IDENTICAL to mine... door sticker wise, yet it was missing the towing mirrors... they were supposed to be there, just were not.

anyway, my truck has thrown soem codes for the pedal, but never done that. one tiem i was disengauging the CC via the clutch... and it didnt turn off, reved to 4500 and then back down. i was mad, but the truck didnt throw any codes.

I can relate to having a CANN BIRD as we call it in the c-130 world. it just sucks having to do the work twice when the new part comes in. especially on a 130, it's the japanese of planes.

So does anyone think i should make an appointment with the dealer? maybe the cable did get kinked, but it hasn't done it since, then again i don't want to wait for it to happen again.

No Cable (FROM THE SERVICE MANUAL)

5. 7L Gas / 5. 9L Diesel

The speed control system is fully electronically controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If equipped with

a diesel engine, electronic control of the speed control system is integrated into the Engine Control Module (ECM).

A cable and a vacuum controlled servo are not used. This is a servo-less system. The controls consist of two

steering wheel mounted switches. The switches are labeled: ON/OFF, RES/ACCEL, SET, COAST, and CANCEL.

The system is designed to operate at speeds above 30 mph (50 km/h).

IF the cruise control doesn't use a cable, then why would the throttle use a cable?

Because the cruise control doesn't work via the throttle. With cruise on and your foot off the accelerator, the %throttle is 0.

At any given time, the ECM has control over engine RPM. There must be a way for you to tell the ECM what you want the engine RPM to be: that's done with the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor, which is mounted beneath the driver's side battery. There has to be a connection between that sensor and the accelerator: that's the cable.

I think I saw some information about the connect for the "Xzilliraider" that uses input from the TPS which was out in the engine compartment 2003-2004 but in 2005-2006 it is now directly connected to the throttle peddle inside the cab and has only electric wires running to the engine compartment.
