Should People In Bad Neighborhoods Beef Up Security?

Cuban Cigars

this is a true incident, and unfortunately, IMO, too often the current mind set.

several unsupervised children were throwing rocks at each other at a local recreational facility. one of the children took a direct hit in the forehead, requiring a few stiches at the local ER.

The Father of the injured child was on the war path with the other parents and the facility operators for monetary damages. He seemd to assume it was everyone else's responsibilty to oversee and protect his childs welfare while he was busy doing other things.

This will proably end up in court, resulting in new laws, putting more restrictions for us to ensure our protection.

Whatever happend to accepting responsibilities for our actions?

here's another true incident:

two lanes on the freeway approach, left lane is bumper to bumper, right lane merges into left forming one lane into the freeway.

left lane is merging orderly well in advance of the "ain't no more room" area.

large PU (with black smoke emitting from the large single exhaust pipe) in left lane notices fast approaching Lexus in right lane, driver yakking on the cell phone, apparently oblivious to the rest of the world.

PU driver proceeds to increase speed and maintain position entering the freeway. Lexus driver continues to remain oblivious. As the right lane ends and the solid white lines are present the Lexus driver attempts to merge LEFT. Hey, PU driver, what are you doing in my space? BTW, the PU driver was enveloped in 70 mph. traffic, front, back and left side.

Both drivers proceed side by side, inches from contact, whereupon the Lexus decelerates rapidly, viciously cuts behind the PU (oblivious to other traffic), crosses two lanes of rush hour traffic to gesture to the PU driver in the universal language of digust.

Know what the PU driver did? Laughted at the idiot Lexus driver who BTW swung across three lanes of traffic to get off the freeway at the next exit.

Sometimes you just have to laugh at their stupidity while realizing most people do not care about the welfare of others.

I hate people whos only purpose in life is to blame every body else for there mistakes, and of course, that leads to a LAWSUIT.

Being a locomotive engineer, i cant tell you how many cases i hear about where a tresspasser is hit by a train and they (If they survive) or there family sue the railroad and the engineer. "Saying the railroad should have prevented it with fences" or what not. The messed up part is alot of these A*****es actually win these cases. People need to learn to take responsibility for there actions (Or lack of them).

There was a case (And it was one of MANY) where a 17 year old girl walked out in front of a train and commited suicide. She left a note and a messgae on friends answering machine saying she was going to do this. The family sued the railroad AND WON saying the railroad was responsible for there daughters death by not having proper fences. This is the dumbest load of s**t i have ever heard. It is IMPOSSIBLE to fence all railroad tracks, do i even have to explain why?.

Another thing that bothers me about people who chose to kill themselves by jumping in fornt of trains is they never think about the fact the train crew has to live with the fact they killed somebody. Thankfully, i have'nt yet, but statistically i will in 6 years or less. Of the 28 engineers i work with, 23 have hit and killed or injured someone. One friend hit 6 kids at once on a bridge.

If you are stupid enough to walk on railroad tracks you DESERVE to get hit and killed, i have no pitty for any of these people. Apparently an 18 foot high, 20,0000 ton wall of steel (That cant stop quickly)is not scary enough to keep you off the tracks.

I cant recall a single run i made where i did not see at least one tresspasser walking on or crossing over the tracks where they are not supposed to. I blow the horn at them and i would say 90% of the time they give me the finger, or throw something at the locomotive. Lawsuits based on stupidity should be illegal.

Another true story....

A close friend of the family's daughter died last week.

It was the end of a day, and the family was in the pool cooling off.

The daughter was playing with her brother. Dropping things to the bottom of the pool, then taking turns picking them up.

Son was watching when daughter went down, she let go of what she already had (they were picking up multiple pieces) knowing that something had gone wrong, the son immediately alerted the parents of this.

It was no use. The father was performing CPR, but she was never revived.

I still dont know the cause, but there is speculation of a blood clot from a school activity. Lots of people are telling her to sue.

Eric
