In the county that I live in, there has been a big debate re: a cross on a large hill in the city of Ventura. It is on city property and has been there since the late 1800's. This has nothing to do with the ACLU, but some joker sued the city because he didn't think it was right to have that on city property. The city council caved and took it down after much debate and a vote and numerous newspaper articles etc...
Keep in mind the official name of Ventura is San Buena Ventura. It is one of many mission cities in California, so crosses also have some historic value. I guess if we are going to remove crosses on public property, we may have to rename the cities of San Diego, LosAngeles, Santa Barbara, San Fernando, San Luis Obispo, San Jose, Santa Clara, San Francisco, and those are just some Calif. cities off the top of my head... . but why stop there... how about Saint Louis, Mo. or Saint Petersburg, Fla. , or Saint Helena, or Las Cruces, NM... . where does this nonsense stop?
