Steve, to remove the covers you need to turn the steering wheel 90° and then you can get to the two 10mm bolts on the back of the steering wheel, these bolts will remove the airbag. The rest is obvious from there, remove two phillips screws and the covers come right out. When you remove the covers you will find the CC wires plugged into the covers, unhook the wires and just plug them into the new switches.

I did this on an 04. 5 ST sixspeed equipped truck, that a local member has.

One note: Disconnect the negative battery cables for 10 minutes before working with the airbag!

OK, that makes sense... I thought the goofy covers popped off, I didn't realize that the airbag needed popped off.

Cool, this sounds better...

I am going to order these tomorrow and give it the old college try.

I am pretty stoked about this, that is the ONLY thing I wanted my truck to have from day one.

Gentlemen,

Please bear with me... . could someone explain exactly where the switches would go on dodge cruise... I never looked at a cruise controlled truck... are they stalk or wheel mounted? In looking at my wheel there does not appear to be any place where switches would be mounted... i. e. there aren't any covered slots. . just a smooth horn cover where the air bag is located. My auto stalk is full (and has the jake on it). . and the turn signal stalk is obviously full

thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the switches go on the spokes of the steering wheel... they replace the black "blank" plates.

I ran this by John Holmes of Carson dodge. . there is also a thread on his site about this (of course referring back here) John is unsure if the mod will work on the 06 diesel. . he thinks it might work on the gassers...

can anyone definitively say it works on their 06 ctd... mines an auto

thanks

Any D. C. service manager can call STAR and ask. Parts mananger can also ask his rep. Its worked on D. C. products for over a decade. The older vehicles you had to add the servo. Late models you don't.

Another happy customer with cruise now

My truck

2006 Quad cab ctd auto ST model. . no crusie

bought the switches

followed the directions posted here

took 15 minutes start to finish

works perfectly including all dash light functions

TDR rocks... thanks. . it was the one option I really wanted and the truck didnt come with...

and with the money I saved now I can buy a subscription Oo.

OK, got the switches today.

Took about 15 minutes to install (including waiting for the airbag stuff to discharge). The batteries took the longest...

I took a lot of pictures that I can post later...

It worked flawlessly!! I HAVE CRUISE!!! And this was in a 2004. 5 600CTD ST 6spd Manual.

I HATE DEALERS!! And the dealer I bought the switches from asked me what I was doing with them, which I told them, and was promptly told "that won't work, the wiring isn't there... "

Sometimes someone just plain dosen't know. Wiring on D. C. products(cruise deal)has been there I know for well over a decade, maybe longer.

steved you need to go back to the dealer and tell them it worked. It may help some other poor soul. And,, this is important,, do it in such a way you obliquely tell them they are dipsh... s for telling you something that was not only wrong but they had no basis of knowledge. It would have been better had they said they did not know if it would work. Could have even said they would be surprised if it would work. But to amke a surething statement really gets to me also.

Its been a while since i have seen this thread i am from the first part & was able to do this mode to my truck on my own i am glad to see more people getting it to work as far as the dealer response wonce i got the sevice department convinced to make a call to a dealer in N. H. (i live in Galt C. A)& found it was possible they were very skeptical. I went in today to pick up front springs (988s) & the parts manager thanked me for having them make the call he said they have done it to 2 more trucks since then he also asked where i was getting info from that they dont have when i said TDR he just smiled & shook his head (same with the front springs). Glad this is working for most people I think there is also a high idle that can be flashed in by the dealer to work with the cruise control to help it warm up faster i am going to check it out next visit for service

2006 CTD, ST, 2500, 4x4, QC, LB, G56, CRUISE CONTROL, JAKE BRAKE, air lift air bags,

Line-X,988s (not in yet)

makes me wonder what other options are lurking in our trucks. . available if we only knew how to access them. . for example my fog light wiring is there even though I dont have them,, but I intend to get a set and try

I would love cab lights. . Im wondering if the loom is up under the headliner or not...

I did that to mine. There's a thread or five on here about that. All you need are the fog lights, the harness that goes between the two and plugs into that unused connector by the left wheel, and a new headlight switch.

If you have the stock front bumper, you'll probably want the plastic trim rings for around the fog lights too.

Bob

just ordered the aforementioned parts at Dodge-Auto-Parts-Dealer.com ,parts were 11. 20, 13. 80 + 8. 50 ship to address, fits 05-07 and all parts in stock FYI

OK, finally got to use it a few times... couple things I noticed:

First, unlike factory installed cruise, the pedal doesn't move with the throttle... makes it a touch difficult coming off cruise without being jerky. Unlike one with OE installed cruise where you could simply lay your foot on the pedal, hit cancel, and you were good... you have to push down until you feel the truck accel and then cancel... you have no feel through the pedal.

And second, most likely because it does lack the solenoid, the cruise will cause a accel, decel, accel, decel, accel phenomone when you are coasting down a hill (a "fluttering" if you know what I mean... you get this bump-bump-bump sensation and the RPSs fluxuate accordingly.

Otherwise, it was well worth the $$ and performs flawlessly.

With these drive by wires the fuel pedal dosen't move. Dosen't move on my 03 eaither. When you added the switches the cruise IS the same as if it was done on the assembly line.

Must be different than the 99s then (they are drive by wire to an extent also), it was just something I was not expecting...

Do the 3rd gens flutter when descending a hill also??

steved

Mine dosen't. Mine did do a few oddball things once in a while when it was new. Been a few years since any wierd cruise thing. Fueling boxes can make cruise seem jittery. 99 and the 3rd generations are differant. I almost want to say that the ecm has to relearn? I may be saying this wrong but there is a way to reset/relearn the cruise function. I know it can get a little out of sync. and can be turned off and on,set etc. to get it back in sync. I read a prochedure for such but can't remember where etc. Like resetting the TBS. Anyhow I'd just use it and see if in a few days it dosen't get smoother. What you did by adding the switchs is factory, nothing differant.
