"CARB Compliabt Baby Crib"

thanks, by the way i went to the sportsmans warehouse to look for the savage. they didnt have it so they looked for one. none of their distribuors had one and savage didnt even have one stocked. #@$%!:{#@$%!:{

i did see this;

Centerfire Rifle - Model 700 XCR Tactical Long Range - Remington Centerfire Rifles

it handled great, and is about 1. 5lbs lighter than the savage. street price is 1200-1250 more expensive but apears to be work it as it has glowing reviews.

300 reg not short, but i can live with it.

i got me the remington, and all the necessary bits to make ammo. win brass, fed 215's, nosler 168 and 180 ballistic silvertips and reloader 22. now for 10 day wait in hellifornia.

my understanding of a barrel break in procedure is;

full clean and oil to get rid of gunk and dust from factory testing and sitting.

fire one shot run one wet patch then one dry patch. repeat 5x

fire 5 shots run wet patch then dry patch. repeat 5x

run a patch with barell lube.

adjust or correct where necessary please and thank you.

as for a scope im thinking 4-12 ill save the red dot for a later date to uncomplicate things even though i dont think uncomplicate is a real word.

KB, With budget considerations not mentioned. I would start at a Nikon, Pentax model at the bottom of the line. Leupold 4. 5-14 VX-3 or Sightron at the mid range price/quality and bottom of the power range, and a Nightforce Compact or NXS at the top of the line!

Several thoughts, here. The better you can see, the better you can hit!

If you buy a Brand new "Dodge Cummins with all the bells and whistles" are you going to buy use recapped tires for it? Dont skimp on your scope. It is a system, not just an afterthought.

Go to OpticsPlanet.com | Low Prices, Free S&H on Binoculars, Sunglasses, Night Vision Goggles, Riflescopes, Flashlights, Rangefinders - Hunting, Outdoor, Science & Military Gear for examples scope sales.

Hope you enjoy your new Rifle!

Yes, that break-in procedure looks familiar.

I get most of my brass wholesale from Jerry's Sports Centers or Third Generation Shooting supply... ... Occasionally, I'll have Dad order me some stuff from Midwayusa.com, but I don't like the guy that owns that... ... I'll also pick up some components from Wideners.com or Sinclairintl.com..... Cabela's can have some good deals if you catch them in the bargain cave or on sale... ... The Brass Monkey guys look familiar by the contact info, I think I've bought some stuff from them off Gunbroker a few years ago... . They must have done me well, or I'd have their name on my list... . :D

Nikon scopes are pretty good. They won't take the beating Leupold or higher end scopes will, but I have a couple, and they've been good scopes..... The Nikon Buckmaster is a good purchase for the money... . They're good on warranty, too, as long as you register for their mailing list... . errrr, I mean for the warranty... . :rolleyes:

I've also had good luck with the lower end Leupold, VariX-I, sold at Wal-mart. I've never bought one, but I've had some come in on trade, and while they're not the best for light transmission and clarity, they do well, especially if you're just hunting a few times a year and plinking... . but I prefer the Nikon... ...

cooked up some new rounds for the 300 mag with rl22.

nos. 168gr ballistic silvertip 70 and 74. 5 grain charge. max is 79.

nos. 180gr ballistic silvertip 66 and 70 grain charge max is 75. 5.

there were slight differences in c. o. l. between 3. 333 and 3. 340. im geussing because the tip on the bullets is rubber. out of curriosity i took the calipers to some factory ammo. remington umc 45 auto came in between 1. 248 and 1. 262. made me feel a lot better.

i was thinking 4-500 for a scope. i have zero brand preferance. the only thing ive ever shot with a scope is a 10/22 with 100 bucks worth of burris. kinda why i prefer having sights.

KB, once you look through a good glass, you will wonder where you've been all these years.
Watch your seating depth. Magazine length is a consideration and Polymer tips are not always consistent, as you have seen. The best way to measure seating depth is from the bearing surface with a comparator gauge. You can buy a cheap one from Sinclair International and they really help. The overall measurement is only for a precise comparison. However, it is an absolute necessity to be able to duplicate loads and keep track of the throat erosion.
I use one like this. There are others that are much more precise. However, this one works well enough
If you really get serious, then you will compare ogive length from lot number to lot number of the same bullets.

anybody know any good loads for a 45 auto. just cooked up 100 with starline brass, hornady 200 grain hp and 8. 3 gr of hs-6. ive been looking to find aa#5, but nobody seems to want to carry it.

or if you know any good ones for 44 ot 300 mag or 45/70, im just stocking up on ammo while im going nuts waiting for my rifle.

im also looking for better data for cast performace bullets, because of the seating depth of the 460's in the marlin it doesnt seem like the data for the 500's would be the same since they are loaded for a number 1 with a longer c. o. l. and a regular seating depth.

I dont neck size for hunting AMMO but I do on some other rounds and have Neck size only 22-250 rounds countless times with no problems. JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE ROUNDS ARE USED IN THE SAME GUN ALL THE TIME. JMO

Wellllllllll..... it depends..... my match rounds, I often FL resize every other firing... . neck sizing in between. For hunting loads, I usually FL resize every round, usually because the loads are borderline hot, and fully stretch the case. A full pressure round will stress the case more than a match load usually will, unless your rifle will take full pressure rounds for optimum accuracy, which is rare. If you're shooting lighter bullets you might get away with every other time. Usually, with the magnum cases, you really need to do it every time. I test mine by cycling the brass after necksizing and decapping. If I can feel much resistance at all, I FL resize 'em. A little practice and you'll know when your rifle needs it, what loads require it, and so on..... I've found with the 300 and 338 WinMag, I can reload cases 6-8 times with Winchester brass. The primer pocket is the usual failure. The pocket gets so loose, it won't reliably hold the primer, and with rough handling can allow the primer to fall out. Occasionally, the necks will split, and those cases have to be thrown out... . I add 10-20 cases every year for fatigue failure and intolerance issues for just about every rifle I'm shooting, which usually falls on 6-7 rifles I cycle throughout the year. I'll load 100-120 rounds for several rifles, start shooting, and when I get down to 20 or less rounds, I rotate onto another rifle. I'll do this until I get time to reload, and then I'll reload for several more and keep the cycle going. I've become somewhat dependent on factory ammo, as I've taken a liking to the AR-15, and I've got one that loves M855 ammo, which happens to be pretty lethal on hogs and 'yotes, and I don't like to beat up my good rifles, so I carry the little AR, with 20 or 30 round mags, which are somewhat compact and easy to keep up with... ... . It usually gives way around Sept-Oct to the larger . 284 or 270 for the longer ranges when I actually have time to hunt some.....

Anyway, see if your brass is tight in the chamber, and if it is, you need to FL resize it, for sure... ...

The big bore? I usually use Lake City or Winchester. Lake City is much more consistent. I've got a bunch of Lake City '94 that is superb. I wieghed, turned necks, and weighed again... . they're almost perfect for the size!! Combine that with 240grs of V2029, a 750gr Barnes Bore-rider, and you've got a good 1-mile load!!!

Oh, wait, did you not mean that big a bore?!?!? :D I use Winchester a lot in my Win Mags, as well as Norma, but it's hard to get, sometimes. Winchester is ok for the money, but you get a lot of waste. I'll weigh through 'em and sort according to increments of 5 grains. The majority I use, the rest gets stored in labeled boxes until I get enough to use... . Or it gets used for fireforming or testing. Or project rifles that will be sold.

It's been my experience that Norma has the best 300WM brass out there. I've had some reloaded 8-10 times. That's impressive. Federal is just as tough, but with a few more variances in lot numbers. Brass from several lot numbers will vary in hardness and capacity, sometimes. Winchester comes in behind that, and then Nosler... . Remington brass seems like it gets brittle and the necks will crack after 2-3 firings. The case also has less capacity. Annealing the necks makes them last longer, but why involve the extra time if you can get better, more consistent brass eslewhere? (please don't tell my cousin I said that... . he works for Remington R&D)

Speaking of Marlon, GHarm, check out the new Remington MSR action... have you seen this yet? I'm supposed to get an action and barrel extension in the next few months, but no garuantees, as I think Remington may have just won a contract with the Army..... Remington Defense The barrels use a barrel extension like an AR, and are torque locked for headspace into the action, and the lugs of the bolt go up into the barrel, just like the AR!?!?! This is the kind of thing you'd think Chuck Norris would carry... . which speaking of Mr. Norris, have you seen the new expendables 2 movie coming out?!? With all the old name actors!?!? INCLUDING 72yr old Charles "Chuck" Norris!!!

I get distracted, easy don't I..... OH, look, squirrel!!!

most accurate powder

for those who have developed loads for their rifles, what powder was the most accurate for the 300 win mag. i know every rifle likes to eat something different so i will need to make stuff for mine, but im looking for a place to start. ive been using slow burners rl22 and 25 with medium loads and seating the bullets long to reduce pressure so i can baby my rifle for a while.
