Competition Difference between a HT3B and HT4B

Competition Paging CumminFast

I went to the DHRA races in Baytown Sunday and had, to my suprise, the second fastest et's in STREET class there (I figured there would be more) and,no, I'm not counting Maddog. My best run was 13. 169 :D . To say the least, I was stoked! The fastest dial in time was 12. 5. Anyways , I want to be in the mid to low 12's. I am posting my current bombs trying to get opinions on what the largest EDM I can go with and still keep my truck streetable at near sea level. I talked with 2 reputable sources and got differing opinions so now I will try the masses. I'm leaning toward EDM3. 4's.

2002 Dodge Cummins

DTT (except shafts, that's next)

Drag Comp

DD II's

PDR HX-40 16cm wastegated @40 PSI

Scotty II

4" exhaust

Snow Performance boost cooler (cummins package)

Approximately 510hp

Current egt's, everything on, WOT 1350 degrees

Elevation <100ft

Fuel pressure , everything on, WOT, 4 or 5 PSI

currently run daily with drag comp on 3 X 5 with no smoke problems

I welcome all replies from those who know.

Thanks,

Elmer

Congrats on the Times Elmer!!!!! Those are great for a daily driver. You should be stoked  .

No idea on the EDM's :D , just wanted to congratulate you on those smokin' times.

 No shafts = no race or you will break just like i did on the forth run with edm 3's have similar mods hx40 cam drag comp and more. I have the 3's and think that I have more that enough fuel now need more air. OOH yea they rock with a fass to keep them fed. :D

do you tow much or at all? I am running Don's Mach 3's and they really rock

But would I tow with this level? In my case no.

I tow a 30' 10K 5er only 3 month out of the year but when not towing these injectors have found a home :D

The HP and Torque is out or this world

tow? not much at all

If I need to tow I will borrow my brothers truck (huntmstr1). He has a 2001. 5 HO, just slightly modified that tows great.

You guys with the EDM3's, would where is your smoke level. "Very hard to control", "just watch your diving and you'll be fine", or "no problem at all"?

I hope to go to twins in 6 months or so and I really don't want to have to buy another set of injectors at that time. Do Ya'll think the 3. 4's would be bearable?

Thanks

Elmer

Elmer,

riprook on here has a set he drives daily and has close to the same mods as you do. You might send him a PM to get his opinion.

At your elevation Mach3's and your 40 would work great. I can still peg my pyro but it takes a while to get there. I've had my 3's for about 5k now and I wouldnt trade them for anything... well maybe some 3. 5's or 4's. Oo.

Bob, so what do you put back in when you are towing?

Mad Bomber, I run DieselDynamics Stage III injectors for towing and the box is never needed either.

Plenty of power with the DD3's but the box can be engaged to really haul ass :)

I am a big believer of injectors over electronics and it does work well.

So how do the mach 3's compare to the dd3's as far as power? what are they supposed to make? You say you wouldn't tow with them or couldn't?? I ask because i would also like to step up to some EDM's but don't know where to go as far as size. thanks.

EDM's

The DDIII's are about 100 HP the EDM III's are 125 HP and they are even more in a ETH. What they have over the DD's is a better spray pattern. Give rip a call at www.sourceautomotive.biz He has them on sale right now and has them on the shelf reddy to go

:D

You might be able to get away with it because of the stick and the B1, but if you get up into elevations over 4000' and try to pull any grades hard it will get warm. Even on 1x1 and with the 40 I have to drive by the pyro pulling grades empty around here.

I think if you put on a Fuel Preparator or a FASS to remove the air from the fuel going to the VP, you will see a drop in your times. Your will get more power. How much I cannot say, but I know the engine will run smoother and will be quicker. Your WOT pressure should not drop below 10 psi. and you will make less smoke. This is with the VP banjo bolt/fitting eliminated and the inlet orifice of the supply fitting (on the supply line - Not the VP) drilled out to 3/8.

Congrats on you run by the way. :)

I haven't tested the Mach 3's But I have tried some of the early DM EDM 6. 5's here at 6000 feet. With the latest DM 3's I would bet that Egt's at REASONABLE Towing speeds would not be any higher than the DD'3s and might be lower.

Untill Don's Edm's came out the DD'3's were the highest HP street injector with the least amount of low end smoke... . Most of my towing R&D is at or above 6000 ft.

Has anyone run some of the F-1 Edm's and also Don M's on the same truck? I would like to see how they compare from Idle, Low end smoke, Mid range Egt's and of course Max HP... .

Cummins4life, Which version of the B-1 do you have? We could possibly change the Turbine wheel or Housing for optimum EGt reduction at your towing RPM. .

Hey kurt, I have one of the very early B1's that I got from you through nowell. Is it possible to change the housing on that one. I got the impression from him that it would be easier to sell mine and buy one of the newer quick spool versions. The reason i ask is that i gross 22-23 k and i have a hell of a time towing with the b1. I am always under the turbo and cant keep the egts in check. I tow some pretty good hills and i need some super low end boost. I find that I actually pull most hills faster with lower egts with my hx35. Empty its a different story and i love the b1 as it is. but if i could get a smaller housing that would keep boost up while towing yet still give me the top end performance i like while empty I would be all smiles.

What Rpm do you pull your loads at? I am really suprised that you could have lower egt's towing with your 35?

If you have the standard B-1 - then we three Versions that are "Kwiker" spooling so you have several options. Change your Std Exhaust housing to a KwikSpool which you can do easily in the field. Or Sell your B-1 and then we can build a B-1B Or a KSB-1B. The std B-1 will outspool the hx4016's and the KSB-1B's are two levels "kwiker".

I have over two years of B-1 Customer Reports and feed back from many different users with dozen's of different truck configurations. I have been compileing all this information with my own R&D testing. When my web site is up and finished I will have some great info for most Bombers to be able to pick the best B-1 Variation for their use.

For the first year we had the B-1's and the KSB-1's and a few Custom Built B-1's. During the second year we have expanded the options to more than 12 different B-1 Bomber Turbo configurations... . This does not include the B-1 and B-2 / Big Brother Compound setups or the custom versions for the Sled Pullers, Dyno Big Dogs and the customs for Drag Racing.

Call or E me for more specific info
