OK I did a search and spent a lot of time reading about the OBD2 software and cables available for connection to your Laptop. Just thought I would ask for any updates ar suggestions from those currently using this stuff.

I want to be able to view and clear codes on not only my Cummins but most other vehicles as well.

The ability to change parameters would be a huge bonus.

Would like to be able to connect device to laptop and take a drive and log information available to the OBD2

Suggestions Please :)

Good topic. I'll bump this for ya so I can keep an eye on it. Be nice to have my Dell laptop hooked up instead of buying a scanner. Oo.

A buddy and myself just went in on Alex Pepers OBD program. I haven't received it yet, but when I do I was planning on putting together a post. I couldn't find much info on this here, from what I did find "most" liked the Peper program. We'll see... more to come.

I've got this one. Had it for a little over a year now. Works great.

I personally would prefer a little more information on the Dodge CTD's. It does not read all that many sensors. Reads codes, gives the definitions, and clears them just fine. Works on ALL other OBDII compliant vehicles that I have hooked up to. Pulls TONS of information on gassers, especially Fords (does good on their diesels as well).

It could be my laptop, but the more sensors that you try to read at the same time, the refresh rate gets slower.

Alex is also good about updating the software for his program about once a month. Keeps getting better with more options.

I'm looking at AutoEnginuity. They offer both PC and PDA software. If you get the PC software, it's only $60 to add the PDA software. I don't think there's any OBD2 software that allows you to permanently change parameters. Also, most don't offer extended data for Chrysler.

What AutoEnginuity's ScanTool can do:

Read and Clear Stored and Pending P, U, B, C Trouble Codes (including 11, 000 manufacturer enhanced codes)

Read and clear Freeze Frame data

View live vehicle sensors in a meter, graph, or gauge format

View oxygen sensor live data and test results

View all 11 Inspection/Maintenance system test results

Unlimited logging of Diagnostic Trouble Codes and live vehicle sensors

English or Metric (SI) units of measure supported

Run and query specific component and system tests

View generic and manufacturer enhanced data on the same tool

Configure the interface to suit your preferences

Supports 1996 and newer passenger vehicles, whether it be domestic, Asian, or European.

SAE interfaces: J1850 (PWM and VPM), ISO-9141-2, ISO-14230 [KWP2000], and CAN (optional). 1

Something we offer that the others don’t:

Bi-directional support. You have the ability to initiate system and component tests. 2

Reporting of Monitored System components. If a system test fails, now you can see the results from the failing component. 2

VIN reporting.

KWP2000 support and CAN (optional) support. 1

Support for the new extended sensor list (that's 79 sensors--not 32).

Wide-band O2 sensor support. 2

O2 sensor test results. See sample plots of what you are to expect.

Wireless (optional) and touch screen-enabled.

Most importantly—ALL THREE vehicle interfaces. This is a savings of hundreds of dollars over the competitors unit.

I have the AutoTap Diagnostic scanner and it runs on an old IBM notebook that my son has it does a very good job, I also purchased the Chrysler enhanced softwarewith the package. I have used it on several dodge vehicles and all with successful results.

Alex Peppers OBD-2. You download the program from that site, and contact him to make the purchase. He will send whichever cable, OBD connector, and authorazation code to unlock the program when he has the money.

I am working on the Alex Pepper software. To be blunt, I would say it is a piece of crap. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I get the paramaters I want sometimes I don't. Technical support is a joke.
