I just installed the Aeroturbine muffler and PSD intermediate pipe from Diesel Power Products. I am very happy with the setup and sound. I keep the stock exhaust, and tail pipe. I replaced the muffler and added a PSD intermediate pipe, which goes from 3 1\2 to 4 " The setup is noticeable, The turbo spools up quicker the EGT temps are 100 degrees cooler. MPG are 21 mpg empty. Temps on EGT at 65 mph is 550 F . I do have a AFE air filter, with the air box drilled. I know some of you are wondering if the dreded droan is there on the sound. None to report. The sound at idle is deeper, and at acceleration the sound has some Bark to it. If you need some more info about this system contact www.dieselpowerproducts.com and ask for Dave.

Thanx Scott!

I had my local shop order that kit and they called yesterday to tell me it was in. I was having second thoughts about installing it because of noise. Your post makes me feel better. Think I'll try it!

Scott,

What muffler did you put in with the Aeroturbine? I understand that it can be really loud without some type of muffler.

Thanks,

Wil

2. how about flutter?

3. do you have you turbo silencer ring in?

4. can you hear more turbo now out of the pipe now?

thanks in advance for the reponse

Ok I will try to answer all the questions at once. The muffler is called a aeroturbine, that bolts up to a Power Stroke intermediate pipe. first you cut the muffler off at the point to where the pipe goes to 4" on back of muffler then you cut the inlet , secondary pipe off next you loosen the the pipe between the first and second intermediate pipe and rotate 180 degrees. next you put the new PSD pipe over the secondary you just rotated. the Pipe will line up with tail pipe section, Make Sure the distance between the tail pipe and the PSD pipe are 15" apart Cut to fit . The Muffler is 21" long if you put 3 " into each end of the muff it comes out to 15 +6 = the length 21.

1 The mpg was 19 before aprox 21 mpg after.

2. There is no flutter with this system. I believe this happens with the straight pipe with no muffler.

3. The silencer Ring has been removed

4. I have the airbox with a 3" hole cut in it along with a Afe filter. Look at my readers rig photos. This makes some nice ear candy she sings. The only thing to make noise left is replace air baffle silencer .

ScottBrown,

Thanks for the feed back on your Aeroturbine. Dropping EGTs 100F unloaded on the highway is awsome. Please let us know what the EGTs look like under load.

After reading the feedback on the DPP site, I think I'll PASS on the AeroTurbine Kit and just have a FULL 4" system installed... ...

Barry,

We have found that the Aeroturbines work very well in a 4" system with straight through muffler. So if you find you want to change the sound of the system or maybe lower EGTs a bit more, you can always insert an Aeroturbine in front of the muffler. Many have done this simply to mellow out the sound of the 4" exhaust.

I put my Aeroturbine kit in this week. Ihad problems turning the first intermediate pipe 180* because the factory pipe had been crimped so much at assembly. When I did finally get it turned around, the joints did not line up right, so I clamped it the best I could, and the local muffler shop charged me $10 to weld every joint on the system. I am very pleased by the sound, difference in cab at cruise w/ windows up is only slightly louder. Like the sound on your radio from 9 to 10. Not much louder at all, really.

You can notice it with the windows down, and it sounds really good passing by concrete buildings in town. Have not checked temps as no gauges, but have seen increases on overhead mileage, not checked full tank highway mileage yet. I have stock airfilter w/ hole in box, (waiting for RamAir III) no silencer ring, 5" exhaust pipe replaces baffle post airfilter. Overall, I am completely satisfied. I do not think anyone would have problems with the sound level, unless you like the sound of a Toyota gas/electric hybrid.

how much turbo whistle can you hear out of the pipe with this system. is the whistle drowned out by the rest of the sound out of the pipe. while idling can you hear whistle? as you can tell i love whistle. thanks CC

At idle you can hear the sound of the turbo at the pipe. I have my silencer ring removed, and a AFE also air box drilled. Bottom line this system is great for the person that wants to keep most of the original exhaust, I like it and it works great . Period... :D

You can use the Aeroturbine to replace the muffler or with a straight through muffler and it works great either way. We have put together a number of ways to use it in the new Dodge exhaust. 1 as in the subject of this thread where you reuse most of the stock pipe, 2 a complete 4" system from the turbo back where the Aeroturbine replaces the muffler and 3 as a complete 4" system which has a straight through muffler and Aeroturbine.

ScottBrown, I think mentioned this as well. He said his truck had a notch in the first intermediate pipe and a pin on the down pipe that was well hidden on top tof the pipe which needed to be removed before he could rotate the pipe. This amy have been why it was so difficult to get the pipe to rotate.
