aeroturbine

I bought one some time back and haven't gotten it on yet. I"ll put it on definitely next week and get back with you. I've read a lot of posts that say it's got a really cool sound and the manufacturer says it will improve mileage. I've got a good handle on my mpg's so I'll know if that's b. s. too.

I'd be interested to see real world results. It looks like a well made unit. I am currently gathering goodies for my new baby and wonder if this muffler should be added to my list. Do you cut the stock unit off and bolt or weld the new one in? Stainless in and out... . might actually withstand a midwest winter.

I got everything I needed from Diesel Power Products. I'm planning on band clamping mine fore and aft. As far as stainless handling the weather,... I had an '92 Chevy 6. 5 with stainless and as of last year when my kid totaled it,... . it was still doing well.

I put one on mine and like it. While it didn't give much in terms of MPG or power improvement it did make my exhaust note sound a lot better. There is a clip of my truck's exhaust sound on Diesel Power Product's website www.dieselpowerproducts.com

Vaughn,

I like the throaty sound. Definitely more meatier, but it didn't seem too excessive. I will probably change the muffler when mine arrives. Is there any drone? Do you have any dislikes? I need to keep mine somewhat tame for the neighbors. I'm already the "dirtbag dirtbiker" in the area. No CTD's here. A lot of beamers and Lexus cars. Any experience with that TAG doohickey on the DPP site?

thx,

Barry

CRF yes there is some drone but I don't have that big of muffler. I have the Aeroturbine close to the downpipe and 4" straight thru muffler in front of the rear axle. I am going to maybe swap out the muffler for the 51" Nelson or Donaldson unit and still leave the Aeroturbine in. I also may try wrapping the downpipe with header wrap.

I have an aeroturbine forward and a Donaldson in place of the stock muffler. I tried the Donaldson alone and it had a terrible drone--sort of subsonic--couldn't really hear it but left my ears numb and ringing. Adding the aeroturbine eliminated that problem. The two together have a real nice tone, somewhat louder than stock and deeper.

I did the conversion to increase fuel mileage and I am up 0. 6 MPG since the switch (12,000 miles ago), but it will take an awful lot of miles to pay off. Jeff

We like our Aeroturbine

We have the Aeroturbine on my wife's 03 and it sounds sweet. I didn't notice any real diff in EGTs or performance, but the sound is cool.

I just want to let everyone know IF YOU TOW ALOT YOU MAY WANT TO RECONSIDER AEROTURBINE> I love mine. the price was awesome. no real difference in power or mpg's like everyone else. sounds great. THEN CAME DUNE SEASON> I hooked up our trailer and four hours of drone. and from a dead stop. you better not be in a conversation. JUST a little FYI if you tow light, or short trips or very infrequently I would say go for it but otherwise think twice. Just me 2 cents

the banks is not like the aero.

the aero claims of performance and economy are false... . as compared to the stock muffler - yes... . as compared to any other straight through design muffler - no. the engineering claims of the aero don't align with known physics principles.

the banks muffler is designed to "supposedly" address the drone of the ctd's with an expansion chamber in the muffler - i never had drone w/stock exhaust and do not have drone w/banks.

i like the banks

I have the ateo turbine and love it. AND, I'm not running another muffler of sorts. Just the areoturbine and some pipe. Love the sound, but not really all thatr loud. Still pretty managable. Just mount it at the end of the down pipe next to trans case like I did. When I first got one a year ago I mounted it the factory muffler location and then moved it for experimental purposes. That was/is deffinently the place to put it.

Conflicting info on placement

Your placement advise on the Aeroturbine was as I was directed by Diesel Performance Products,. . which is where I purchased the unit. However, my installer called Aeroturbine and they told him 30" back from where the pipe straightens out is their recommended placement,... that's what he told me. So unless that was B. S. , there appears to be a conflict on best placement.

With the 4 inch downpipe I recieved from Dave at DPP the pipe runs stright for a while before ending. I do remember seeing a mesurement for Ideal placement and I believe this was close to it. Then again, I've had it for a year and some numbers may have changed. When we first statred this Dave and I spent quite a bit of time talking about where to move it and benifits and so on. I think that is the best place to mount it. I also don't have a muffler (other than the areoturbine), so it wouldn't be too hard to space it back a touch if needed, but for now it's good enough for the girls I run with:D

dieselnut,

glad you like the aero - i considered it but was turned off by the "marketing" of the product -- claims; false claims if you will. if i could have gotten the product for substantially less $ then i would have gotten the aero despite the marketing scheme. i went with the banks system and firmly believe that the monster exhaust is the only REAL value that banks offers. the banks muffler alone is up around the same price as the aero; the banks muffler is a true work of exhaust art; design, workmanship and just as shiney as the aero-ma-jigg. the aero's strongest point probably lies in the sound of the thing; louder than the banks with slightly more turbo whine.

i would say whistle, but the hy35s are more whiners than they are whislers :(

Neat Discovery

I had a neat discovery. I was piddling w/ my 3500 when my wife came home in her truck and shut it off w/ me standing next to her exhaust tip. I could hear the turbo through the exhaust as it slowed down and stopped.
