I was at a diesel shop here in Portland checking out some upgrades and they had the AFE Mega Canon on display. What a great looking product! I'm currently running a K & N replacement in my stock box, and I have a couple of concerns about switching over. The Mega Canon is wide open under the hood. I would think it will get dirty or wet very easy. Is anyone using this had any problems? They do sell a water proof pre filter you can pull over it. Kind of looks like a nylon sleeve. Their specs do say that you'll lose about 10% of the air flow. It may not be a bad idea to put it on if you were to travel for an extened period on dusty roads.

They quoted me $295 intalled. I almost jumped at it, but wanted to post here first for some input. Let me know what you think. I have money burning a hole in my pocket. :D

AFE MegaCannon...Very Pleased

I have had my AFE MegaCannon since it first came out. I love it. I have had every filter combo imaginable and I like this one the best. My EGT's are at least 100-250 degrees lower than what I had experienced before the purchase of the AFE. I also have the nylon prefilter installed. I have had no problems with water or dirt getting on the filter. It will probably be a very long time before I have to clean the filter, considering the fact that the prefilter stops a lot of the big stuff before it gets to the filter. Andy and Doug at ADT sell them for a good price, give 'em a call.

AFE Mega Cannon

I installed this on my truck at the end of April and so far have experienced no probs with either dirt or water. I even took the truck thru a HP car wash and that didn't get it wet. You will hear the turbo whine with this filter installed! I say go for it. I bought the filter, cleaner kit and with shipping it was around $100 less than you were quoted.

Thanks Patriot. Did you have the K & N in the stock box? If so, how much louder is the Canon?

Ken. Where did you get yours? The cheapest I've seen is $250 without shipping?

Chris

Got mine here....

Chris... .

Got mine from www.mrbobsdistributing.com for less $$ than any of these other figures posted. Bob is great guy to deal with.

The AFE replaced a K&N RE-0880 and pre-filter. Turbo whine is not annoying at all to me. I don't think it's loud at all, but you know it's there.

As you say, this is a very high quality system. I also have the Outerwears prefilter. After 6K hwy miles, both filters look new.

AFE

I got mine from Tom at Davis Distributing in Salt Lake City.

801-487-8596. $172. 58(filter kit) $9. 06 (Cleaner & oil) + Shipping.

I ordered on a Friday and had the box the following Wed. I'm sure you'll like the set-up.

RAMFAN2... the AFE is noisier than any other configuration out there that I know of. It just depends on what you are willing to live with, the drop in EGT's was worth the additional turbo music for me...

Noise? What noise? That turbo whine is the sound of power:D I have had my aFe Mega Cannon since around March and love it. I had the K&N before, no comparison. I highly recommend the aFe. Paid $200. 00

I had the K&N at first as well - had one on my '98 for it's whole life (no BOMBing on that one though). I put the AFE on at 8k miles when I added all the power, and I love the filter. It's quite a bit louder than the K&N - mainly because there isn't an enclosed box that the filter sits in... But the added noise is worth the protection, lower EGT's and increased air flow you get.

BTW, I have been looking for the nylon sock, and AFE doesn't even show it on their site. Any idea where to find one of them??

Thanks

Joel

Joel

The AFE advertising pamphlet I looked at today showed the sock as an extra. It was about $30. It claims it's waterproof, which would be a plus. It might be a new item, so check where you bought yours to see if they can get it.

I went out and grabbed the advertising pamphlet, but it doesn't show the item. I think I saw it in their main advertising book at the shop. The owner did say it was new and they didn't even have it in stock. I emailed AFE and hope to have an answer tomorrow. I know it's available. One of the other members mentioned he had one.

Chris and Joel.....

I think the pre-filter you're asking about is the one I have on my AFE.

It's an Outerwears..... I ordered it from them... . can't find their website, but the phone is 800. 967. 3450

PN is WR27. 22. 95T

It's a slip-over, nylon?? cover. Fits perfect, and was ~$30 shipped to me.

Hope this helps.

What Ken55 said!!! I ordered mine from Davis Dist. and the price was as quoted by Ken55. Have it installed and the turbo really whines. I had the

K&N 0880 but really like this one better. Came with mounting bracket and shroud assy. And now I have no more oil all over the fender well.

Here is the answer I got from AFE in regard the the pre- filter.

>We call this pre-filter the Magnum Shield series. The one to fit our kit for the Dodge Cummins (aFe kit number 50-10071) is the 28-10031 and it sells for $55. 00. We do make some other sizes as well.

If we an answer anything else for you, please let me know.

Thank you for your interest in aFe.

I'm this close.....

. . to springing for the AFE. (and since you can't see, I'm holding my thumb and index finger close together. ) I currently have the K&N in the stock box. Will I really see a big difference in performace with the cannon upgrade? I'm getting ready for some 275 injectors and thought it would be a good combination.
