Comparing stock filter to Pro Gaurd Afe?

'03 BHAF (again)

I just cleaned my Mega Cannon filter for the first time since Aug. 12 when I installed it. I live in the desert and the conditions are very extreme. Hauling stock and hay in winds (dust) up to 35+ mph I found no dust on the turbo blades. Not even a speck in the rubber boot going to the turbo. I am very happy with this filter. I would highly recommend it to all who have modified trucks.

AFE FILTERS

I'm not really an oil type filter kinda guy but I will say when comparing the AFE and K&N, I found the quality of the AFE filter so clearly superior even based just on appearance than the K&N that if I was going to go with an oil type filter there is no doubt the AFE would be the brand I'd go with.

still like the BHAF better though :p

what all is involved in cleaning the filter? I'm about due and need to get the "recharge" kit or whatever it's called.

Thanks,

jason

Once you get the kit the instructions are in it. You can also goto afe's web page and read the instructions. All you do is spray the soap on it and let it sit for 10 minutes and wash it with the water on the inside. Let it dry, and re-oil it... .

cleaning filter

just went by parts store, o'reilly auto parts, they have the k-n cleaning kit with an aerosol can of spray oil in it. have not done my filter yet, maybe this weekend, the spray can looks to be much easier to get filter re-oiled... .

Hey Jim! Nice picture! Looks like some truck I took a pic of at some rained out Diesel rally in Kerrville, Tx back in October!:p Just wanted to say hi!

I took off the intake hose yesterday and saw what looks like dust that is passing thru the filter. I have to recheck everything for leaks.

Million Mile Truck

In the last issue the million mile truck also had a new Cummins installed somewhere along the way. I'll re read it tonight.

My k/n deteriated pretty bad. Currently its installed in the bed of the truck for it to be tossed someday. One of the corners has fallen apart. This afe sure is sounding better and better all the time. I'm running stock now and can tell a difference.

Just purchased the AFE Megacannon with a pro-series 7 filter, AFE prefilter and cleaning kit from Bobs Distributing... Will install soon... :)

My K/N did the same thing. Had it about a year and cleaned it about 6 times. Went back to the Filter guard and had lower EGTS, go figure.

Just bought the AFE, going to install it just after I log out. First blush, this thing rocks!

Garrett, unless you drove 300k in that one year you destroyed the K&N by overcleaning it.

I have over 200k and seven years on my 95's airbox K&N, cleaned it three times.

K/N Cleaning

Could be. I cleaned it when the bottom side (intake side of filter) became so ecluded with a layer of dirt you couldn't see the fine wire mess (dirt road). So in my mind (and short trip around life's block) I figured it was time to clean it. And yes I'm guilty of over oiling the darn thing maybe twice. But going back to a stock filter (Filter guard) and getting better or marginal improvements, what gives.

Garrett

PS AFE installed and not looking back
