I just got a phone call from my buddy who was at a dealership trying to order a backup AFE filter. They told him the AFE does not need to be oiled. I have had mine about 5 years now, and he has had his at least 4 years. We have always oiled our filters when we clean them. In fact, they came with the cleaner/oil kit when we bought them.

Question... . Are our filters just so old that they don't make them anymore? Did they switch to dry filters only nowadays?

I know lots of guys (and gals) run the dry filters, but I thought it was kinda strange the dealership told him not to oil AFEs.

Ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks..... Steve

Both are still available. I have not tried a dry AFE, I currently am using an oiled AFE. I have used a dry Amsoil nano filter with no complaints.

I have the afe proguard-7 and it is a oiled filter. I also have the afe pro dry-s it does not need to be oiled. I only use the dry while my oiled one is drying.

make sure they aren't confusing it with the AEM Filter. The aFe is an oiled filter and the AEM is a dry filter. Both are conical filters.
