Want to get some lights for my aftermarket bumper, either indivual lights or dual driving/fog. Want good lights (lots of candles) at low cost (oxymoron) so I can see when I drive in dark or the fog (sort of).

What's out there and how do they show?

Horseman, I have some huge driving lights leftover from a previous race car that I want to mount up, but the guys here seem to think that KC Daylighters rock. Do a search, read and learn!

PIAA make a good setup, just terribly expensive. You can go to PIAA to see some of their products #ad
PIAA.

On an aside, I've probably spent enough on crap lights to pay for a set of good ones. You get what you pay for. Right now the driving lights are Bosch with 100W KC light bulbs. OK but the casings are a little brittle from the heat.

I've looked at the websites for many of the high end lights. Buying them means I don't eat for a few months or something else.

What I'm looking for is info on affordable good quality lights, both fog and driving. The info so far has been on the criminal side of expensive... that is I'd have to steal them or rob a bank to be able to afford them. Not into that.

So... anyone with good and affordable aftermarket lights please jump in with your stories and opinions. Thanks.

Had PIAA Fog and Driving lights on my last truck. I'll be putting a new set on my new truck too. Used them all the time and they never burnt out. All metal casing with real glass, good quality. Figure you buy it once and that's it!
You have to make the comparison between quality and quantity ( meaning how many times you have to buy a replacement )

By the way what kind of replacement bumper did you get. I'm in the market for one.

The Bosch lights I got from Ukranian Spoke & Wheel #ad
were around $90 for each set and they work great. The fog lights I had to replace due to the salt rusting out the reflector, but the Driving set I've had for 4 years. Installed the $20 100W bulbs, relayed into the Hi beam system and work pretty good. Not pencil beams but not floods either, good broad beam. At Can Tire they have replacement lenses at $35 each.

The Fogs were good with a crisp ditch to ditch beam and little glare in the snow or fog but hung too low on my bumper. Replaced them with projector style and regret it.

My $0. 02 is up

I put the Xenon bulbs in my headlights and it made a difference. They are just crappy now, not horrible like they were. My last Dodge was a 76 powerwagon and it had better lights than this one! I have cheap fog/driving lights on my grillguard. The driving lights are too narrow of a beam and the fogs aren't worth a squirt of ... . Buy the PIAA and you won't be sorry, just hungry.
By the way, my Luverne grillguard is rusting after only one and a half winters and I keep it as clean as possible. Would NOT buy another.

I bought the Stainless Steel KC Daylighters, 165 watt and 385,000 candle power each. The kit including 2 Daylighters, all wiring, switch, and directions for under $130. 00 at <A HREF="http://www.carparts.com/parts/newsearch2.asp?whichpage=2&reflink=0-0-00180832882152231591-0-0&sourceid=&parttypeid=&itemid=1943&autoidsearch=&pagesize=10&nolimit=" TARGET=_blank><font color=red>CarParts.com</A></font>

Also got Stainless Steel KC #589 100 watt clear fog lights (also come in yellow) from CarParts.com, for under $157. 00.

One thing about KC is that they warranty their lights for 23 years against any failure.

MacTruck, the bumper on my truck is an AliArc Aluminum deer strainer. It's a company out of Winnipeg, MB and if your paying in Cdn you're looking at about $1400. Thing weighs 50 lbs and a winch can be mounted to it (the winch mounts are extra). Continues to look good because of the "special" coating to protect the aluminum.

Lil Dog, thanks. I was looking at the Bosch the other day at Crappy Tire. While I was holding the box, and nearly heading for the cashier, I thought maybe I should check to see if any one else has tried these.

Four things. Did you get the 100W replacements at CT? For both the fog and driving? How did you wire into the highbeams? Lastly, I have read about cross linking the wires for low and highbeam in the steering column, will having the Bosch wired in blow/melt something and how to avoid?

I've got a set of GE 4522 airplane landing lights mounted in a chrome housing. Unfortunately, The housings were given to me so I'm not sure of the brand. I do know that they have Dietz 5500 stamped on them. The GE lights are 250W a piece and really light your way up. I wired mine with a 30 amp relay to come on with my high beams.
The lights were only about $20 each. The housings might be the expensive part.

I am in the process of doing the same thing as glitchesum. **** , them things are bright. You can get some good stainless steel housings from JCWhitney - get the 6" housing and get the GE 4522 lamps at www.aircraft-spruce.com for $22 apiece. Thats all you need, the 4522's are a drop in replacement for the lamps that come with the JCwhitney housing, or any 6" offroader for that matter.
BTW, I compared the JCWhitney Stainless steel housing to a KC Daylighter and they are exactly the same. I also might add that the 4522 is way brighter than the 150w Daylighter.

Whatever you decide, please, please, please wire your relay into your highbeams so that when you dim your lights for an oncoming car, your driving/fog lights go out too. There is little more rude to other drivers than driving arround with your driving/fog lights on. For the life of me I can't figure why they are'nt mandated this way from the factory. Seems like every new car comes with them and the proud owner is gonna show em to the world. Idiots!

Amen to that, not to mention they aren't even aimed correctly from the factory so the fogs leave spots on your eyes. #ad
Once you have the relay system in, you can forget about it.
Also with the drivers relayed, the signal option during daytime passing etc, gets alot more attention.
