I emailed Hurst and said at least 100 of us are interested. Have not heard back yet.

A company replied with this:

"Given the applications the NV4500 was designed for (heavy duty truck) there really isn't much call for a shifter with a throw shorter than stock. So, I'm not aware of an aftermaket setup. Most people find that the stock setup has an acceptable shifter which is an improvement over the Ford factory trannies. If you're running an older 4500, it may just need a rebuild at a transmission shop to clean it up".

New Venture answered:

Bill,

Not that I'm aware of but try contacting one of the following NVG

Distributors, they may have an idea:

Advanced Adapter - 1-800-350-2223

Blumenthal's - 1-888-236-4800

I have an idea...

I have to take my stifter out and shorten it abour 2" to accomodate the taller knob I recently installed. There is a machine shop that the company I work for does a lot of business with that could probably hand this. When I have everything apart I will go pick their brain and see what we can come up with. I'm thinking maybe stainless would be better to work with in a CNC machine... Anybody taken one of these apart? I've never been into one of these and any tips would be great.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

Also, what would you guys pay for one of these?

Good thinking Jlinder!

tgbol probably knows more about the NV shifters than any of us ( see above)

I'd spend $200 bananas on one, probably more. :)

Talking about shifters. Is their a trick to getting the knob off? I have a shifter from a 2002 Lexus SC430 that would fit nice but I can't loosen my truck one. Any ideas would be great.

It would have to be made out of aluminum, stainless is expensive and hard to machine...

You have to use a small screwdriver or something to pry the round shift indicator out and there is a jamb nut under it, after you loosen the nut it will unscrew easily.

I keep putting off taking out my shifter, but the other day I was curious so I pulled off my shifter boot to take a gander. Looks like the shifter is self only sticks our of the transmission about 4" or so, and the stick that pokes out of the boot just bolts on. I couldn't really see how you take the actual shifter out of the trans... Anybody done this before? I've taken old 4 speeds apart, and normally there is a collar at the top of the shift tower that you push down and turn to get the whole thing out. Don't know if our NV4500's are the same or not.

I'd buy a short-throw shifter for my NV5600 in a second!!! The shift quality of this truck is my #1 complaint. I have a B&M Ripper in my '98 Z28 and it ROCKS. I've never driven another vehicle that shifts that well. If only my truck could come close...

Rob

I'd have to buy it too. . the effort needed to shift out trucks is easy so a little more effort over a much shorter distance would be great. . then we just bend the shifter a tad closer to the driver:D

I have installed short shifter kits on some BMW's I have had. I really want to find one for my truck. I'm willing to pay... ...

Why not post the phone numbers for B & M and Hurst with contact names ie the CEOs and EVERYONE call them :D :D :D

I would go for a "pistol grip" like in the older chargers
