The right door speaker went out on my 2nd GEN dually with premium INFINITY sound system and I decided to use good quality aftermarket speakers while retaining all factory wiring & amplifiers. I wanted better sound quality without breaking the bank.
I found a new set of PIONEER TS-G6841R 2way 6”x8” speakers on EBAY for $21. 10 + shipping that had 150W and would fit with an adapter. I made my own adapter out of 3/16” ABS. I removed the amp mount from the original speakers with a hammer and chisel then proceeded to rework the mount with a 6 lb. hammer & cut-off wheel on the die grinder so it could be mounted to the door without interfering with window operation. It fit in front of the glass track and bolted to the door 1-1/4” below the door panel retainer hole by drilling a ¼” hole in the door panel and tapping mount for 6MM 1. 00 thread.
I turned on the previously installed PIONEER receiver, the sound was much improved. Pictures of installation and reworked mount are below.
