The right door speaker went out on my 2nd GEN dually with premium INFINITY sound system and I decided to use good quality aftermarket speakers while retaining all factory wiring & amplifiers. I wanted better sound quality without breaking the bank.

I found a new set of PIONEER TS-G6841R 2way 6”x8” speakers on EBAY for $21. 10 + shipping that had 150W and would fit with an adapter. I made my own adapter out of 3/16” ABS. I removed the amp mount from the original speakers with a hammer and chisel then proceeded to rework the mount with a 6 lb. hammer & cut-off wheel on the die grinder so it could be mounted to the door without interfering with window operation. It fit in front of the glass track and bolted to the door 1-1/4” below the door panel retainer hole by drilling a ¼” hole in the door panel and tapping mount for 6MM 1. 00 thread.

I turned on the previously installed PIONEER receiver, the sound was much improved. Pictures of installation and reworked mount are below.

try a 3 way speaker to really enhance your mids and highs... I have Boston Acoustic 3 way 6x9's in the front doors of Black Betty, 4 way Pioneers in the quad doors, 2 kicker comp 12's, 2 amps (one for the doors, one for the subs), and an Alpine head unit to run everything. . In Mighty Whitey, I made my own templates, and put 6½" Boston Acoustic components in the front doors, Eclipse 3 way 6 inch speakers in the rear doors, two Kicker 12's under the seat, an Alpine V12 amp for the mids and highs, a Kenwood 1,000 watt mono amp for the subs, and a touch screen Alpine DVD player to run everything... .

it is amazing to see the difference in clarity when you run everything through amplifiers versus through the factory head unit! if you ever want to upgrade your factory radio, Alpine is the only way to go! as long as you're happy with your purchase, that should be all that matters...

I lost my ability to hear high pitched sounds from listening to saw blades sing in the cabinet plant I worked in 45+ years ago... so no use putting in a high $$$ stereo system if I cannot appreciate it. Besides that, I will be able to afford injectors and a PAC brake sooner. Different strokes for different folks.

But the point is to show that the factory INFINITY premium system speakers can be replaced without breaking the bank by using aftermarket speakers.
