air bag lite

Out for a ride up to Beatty NV today and as I was takeing a right turn from a stop sign I felt a strong bind in the upper steering column. Now the air bag warning lite is on. I'm thinking (clock spring) but I really don't know. The bind released after a little plastic cracking sound in the upper column. So I think something broke in the upper column. If anyone has had this experience please let me know. I'm still in warranty but I hate to bring it to a dealer. I have 20 years of first hand experience with the dealerships and I know how the system works!!!!

Clockspring= dealer if you are under warrenty. Did your cruise quit also? There's not much the dealer monkey can mess up with during the replacement, though I heard of a case were the mechanic had some sort of solvent on his hands when doing the repair that melted the steering wheel cover. Just check your rig out closely after they finish.

Thanks for the reply and advice. Ilflem I'm headed up your way Jult 1ST for 2 months of fishing. Takeing my 12 year old dog and travel trailer. I was given a 2 month grace period by my wife of 30 years to go wander and fish. I worked as a parts manager for 20 years in the same dealership and really don't want to go to a dealer for service. BUT this is expensive stuff and I'll grin and bear it. Thanks again!!!
