2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Hot Brakes

I just bought a set of suspension air bags for my 01 truck. I went to install them today, and to my surprise, it looks like I will have to remove my overload springs to do so :( . Anyone know what size of U bolts I'll need to replace the old ones?

I bought the Air Lift heavy duty. They have are the two chamber design air bag. When I set them on top of the overload spring it becomes clear that there is no way the upper bracket will go on :( . In fact, I have to compress the bag to even get it on top of my springs :{. Anyone!!! I've looked under the truck again and it may be possible to install my airbags, but why not remove the overloads? With the bags installed the overloads will, from what I can see, never be able to contact the stops. . So my thought is to remove the overload springs and this will make the install simple. Any... Any... thoughts on this would help!

I don't know if it's different from '97 to '01. I have the Air Lift Super Duty bags and they fit perfect with the overloads on. I don't know if mine are the two chamber design or not, maybe that could be the difference.

I removed my overload spring but did not replace the u-bolts, they do stick down on the bottom but I am going to add some kind of ladder bar so I will replace them then but I have had them on there for about 2years no problem.

Thanks for the info, I'll take another look and see if they will work without taking the overloads off. It would make the job a lot easier if I don't have to remove them. If anyone else has any input... Keep it coming!!!

I have the overloads and air bags as well. I ended up buying the Firestone brand because they have an application that fits with the overload springs. The brackets/ bags actually sit INSIDE of the frame rail, and not on top of the leaf springs. I got them from Summit Racing..... My 98. 5 took part #FIP2220. I carry a camper most of the time and run @50 lbs. in the bags. This brings the rear up so it sits about 1 to 2 inches off of the overloads. This way, when I hit a larger bump or corner hard, the overloads will come into play and assist the air bags. This works for me... .

GMcLeod - - Have the same setup you do and put the air bags on over the overloads - - did have to jack body up to install upper brackets but now sits and rides great.
