Oregon Forest Fires

What's the worst dream you ever had?

do you know if I add to much refergerant to a system. Will it shut down?

I have a 97 maxima and I added a can of refergerant and now the system will not work (I don't have gages)?

I'm at work and the wife says..... car just blowing out warm air.

I guess, I'll just have to buy some gages ($100) for a one time use.

If you can help... please respond.

Thanks

Frank

Frank, some systems do have a high pressure switch to protect the compressor. Also if you have to much freon in the system cooling can be greatley reduced. You need to check and see if the compressor clutch is working when you turn on the ac.

Please be very carefull if your going to work on it some more I have seen bad things happen to people when they dont have a gauge to see what the high side is reading.

Nissans need to have the R134A charge very close to factory specs or they will shut down due to over pressure. I've seen some that shut down with as little as 2 oz of extra refrigerant. If it was not working well before - what you added was probably a little to much. Ideally you should check the pressure then adjust accordingly. The next best thing would be a complete evacuation and recharge. Hope this helps.
