I have 2006 Mega Cab, no mods what so ever. No major problems until now. Air conditioner quit (in this 105 heat), turns out the AC compressor blew a seal. Now the good news nationwide 53 unit back-order status. That means the dealerships that have any; are not giving them up. They want to take care of their customers. From the warehouse it is minimum 10 days before your even told that you may get one.

Called the customer care service (1-800 babble) and had the part raised to "high priority" (WDTM). Does this help any?

Seems as though there is a major failure on this component, just wonder how many others out there have the same problem. I am definitely going to get Chrysler to pick up the majority cost (54 k miles daily driver between work and home).

Now the news gets better... no after market yet. Seems with this many going out someone out there could make a fortune if they could rebuild the compressor.

What I don't understand is why they cannot be rebuilt? instead of replacing an entire unit? I am glad I really love this truck otherwise I would be getting a Ford at least when I used to own them, the AC always worked. :{

I just had mine replaced due to a bad clutch assembly.

This started out as an intermitent problem of the compressor not running all the time when called for, so it would get hot in the cab, then back to normal.

I told the dealer this has to be an electrical problem of sorts and they traced the "problem" to the main fuse panel, which has some switching circuit boards underneath it where all the cables plug in.

A complete main fuse panel was ordered and installed - a very expensive item.

Well, the A/C worked well for 1-1/2 days, then stopped working again.

Chrysler then sent the dealer a whole list of items to test and check, wiring, connectors, etc. -- that's when the determination of the bad compressor clutch came about.

Chrysler then sent the dealer a whole new compressor (since you can't just get a clutch assembly) by overnight delivery from west coast to east.

Everything is great now and I'm glad all those additional tests were done.

I'm also glad I'm still under warranty!

Had mine replace about a year ago, or so. Very expensive & doesn't work that well, at all, in my opinion. Replaced on "my dime", also. Compressor destroyed itself, inside.

I live in Phoenix, AZ. , so A/C is rather important. I'm VERY dissapointed in the way the A/C works, on this truck. Freezes up the coil if it gets a bit humid & doesn't cool well the rest of the time. And, the compressor doesn't last very long, in my experience.

My old '91. 5 W-250 still has the original A/C unit with 178,000 miles, on it.

Dodge has been installing A/C units in their vehicles for quite a few years, now. One would hope that they have enough experience, now, to build them right. My experience shows that not to be true. I wish they would go back to building them the way they did in '91. They are going "downhill", it seems.

The quality & engineering of their seats needs to be addressed, also, while they are at it.

I have an '07 5. 9 exhibiting the same systems - intermittently running. Today, I got out and left it running for 2 minutes and it was idling around 1000 rpms. I drove it another block and parked and the idle came down, but the air conditioner wouldn't work at all. I popped the hood and it smelled of something burning. Could that have been my air conditioner clutch? I'm dreading taking it to the dealer, as I make my living out of my truck, carrying my welding machine and tools to the leaks in the pipelines that need fixing.

I got it repaired today and it was the fan clutch and not the air conditioner. The fan clutch went out and wouldn't cool enough at idle, or at low speeds, but ambient air would cool the condensor enough to allow the air conditioner to work, when driving highway speeds.

Just replaced the comp. on my wifes 07 durango($1200). It was just out of warranty. Doesnt work as well as before.

obie,

Two of three rivets that held the A/C clutch togther failed at around 205k miles on my '06 last fall. I was at a friend's shop in IN when it was discovered. He couldn't find a replacement part anywhere in IN, MI, OH, IL, etc.

I pulled out my cell phone and called "K", my favorite parts woman at MOPAR4LESS, a Farmington, NM Dodge dealer and internet parts discounter. The next morning at 10:30 the UPS driver walked into my friend's shop in Avilla, IN with the compressor in hand. I paid about half what he would have charged me for it.

Try calling "K".
