already searched the forums but none fit my problem The air conditioner keeps cycling about every minute or so. It is not turned on. Thought it was the fuel heater kicking in. Is my ac going bad or is there a sensor or switch I can replace myself.

Thanks

It will cycle with the defroster on all the time. Is your defroster on?

If you have your heat knob set on defrost or defrost/heat then the A/C will cycle on and off. It is normal and does it on all vehicles. The reason it does it is to remove moisture from the air so the windsheild will defrost/defog quiker.

the defrost is off. When I had it in the shop last week, had them check the a/c. 1 lbs low so had it recharged. still cycles about every minute and a half. Thinking this would burn it up at this rate. Have 99500 on it too. Would the fan clutch have anything to do with this?

The only two settings that don't use the a/c compressor are floor-only and panel-only. On all the others the compressor will cycle (even the floor/panel setting).

The only thing that would cause it to stay on would be the switch or a bad relay.

And Yes it won't last forever.

If it is cycling on when in the off position, you have an electrical problem somewhere. You can unplug the clutch as suggested above or unplug the clutch cycling switch at the accumulator (the can near the firewall on passenger side). Need to unplug it till you find out what is going on, doubt you need too much AC in Minn right now. I believe there is a relay in the PDC that is controlled by the PCM that switches the AC on and off, relay is probably bad. Check the other relays and if the numbers all correspond, maybe you can switch one into that position and see if that solves the problem. bg
