Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Injector pump problems

I am looking for a new fuel pump the DDRP is not holding up. I have been thinking of runnig an Air Dog 150. What do you guy think about them? Are they hard to install? Also keep in mind that my wife is currently driving my pickup and need something that will be reliable. She tends to not look at the gauges too often must be a woman thing.

The DDRP is a FASS product? I'm not familiar with it, but I have been pleased with my airdog. Hardest part was plumbing into the top of the fuel tank and making the bracket fit the frame. I pulled the bed for installation as I had to cut an old gooseneck hitch off the frame rails anyway, but I imagine you could install it with the bed on easy enough.

That's good to hear. Yeah the Direct Dodge Replacement Pump (DDRP) is a fass product, and personally think it is junk. Been through 2 of them in 5 months. I purchassed the first one then warrantied it 3 months later. Hopefully this onewill last long enough so I can buy the air dog set up. Thank for your input.

I have had an Airdog since they first came out in '05, haven't had any issues with it (140k miles now). Actually have one on every truck I have (four total), with no issues on any of them to date. Only time I had an issue with fuel pressure, was when the filter gelled up (-40) due to bad fuel (water).

I have 50k on my 150 and its been great. the main draw back is the PIA filters to get. the water seperator is tough to find but i did find a nice CAT filter thats a little bigger for the 2 mic filter

My AirDog has been purring along for 430,000 miles with nary a hiccup.

A street driven truck does not need the 150, way overkill.

PM me for an AirDog dealer contact.

Godspeed,
Trent

I installed the older AirDog FP80 several years ago and it has been a very dependable unit. I occasionally look at the fuel press gauge now and it is always at 15 psi. The install was moderately simple. The hardest part was reaching up on top of the fuel tank to disconnect the fuel line to run the 1/2" hose to the VP44.
Regards, Mike.

Do tell on the CAT!!!

Also for the f/w sep try a FS19594, its a MUCH better filter and should be easier to find. (the standard f/w sep isn't much of a sep at all, only 50% free/0% emulsified, OE required 95% for both).

The more that I look at these threads, the more that I would like to install an AirDog100 with the suction side separator. HOWEVER, I am not partial to being stuck with only one filter distributor. Can anyone confirm that the FS19594 (or Baldwin BF1212 ) separator and the Cat 1R0750 will fit the airdog filter base??

TIA

The FS19594 is the only other f/w sep that Fleetguard makes in that thread/gasket size. The BF1212 is different. The final filter is also an odd thread size. The best you can get is the 5um absolute filter that AD sells, a Fleetguard FS5613.

That is the issue with the lack of f/w sep and appropriate flow ratings on the filters. . there just are no other options.

My AirDog has been on for 3 years now. No problems. Since day 1, 14. 5 lbs of pressure all the time. It will not let you down... :D

Well my parts counter guy seemed to have lied a little , the filter he had been selling me is a WIX 33626 witch i said was a popular cat 2 mic filter cross but i found out its only a 6 mic. might be the reason for injector issues

And thats 6um nominal. . OE spec for your truck is 7um absolute and 95% free and 95% emulsified water sep. . Sounds like the setup you have is worse than stock

I love my AirDog! It's been on over a year and not one single problem!!!

I installed the 100gph and attached it to the stock pickup tube ontop of the tank w/o dropping the tank OR raising the bed. I went straight from the AirDog to the VP44 deleting the stock fuel bowl and heater.

I suggest going back thru your stock bowl. . The AD f/w sep is only 50% free and 0% emulsified, OE filters are 95% for both.

I have the Air Dog 150 and am VERY happy and satisfied with it. Mine is routed through the OEM fuel cannister so as to utilize the fuel heater as well as one last emergency backup 5 micron Baldwin PF7977 water separating fuel filter. The fuel pressure stays rock solid upto the maximum limits of the engine fuel demand and the "seat cushion pucker factor" of the pickup truck driver. :D

The only fluctuations in fuel pressure I have seen are during grid heater cycling which is normal due to the voltage draw down.

I use the Fleetguard FF5613 and FS19768 as replacement filters although the original Air Dog 150 filters are still going strong, I purchased a case of the FF5613's and half a case of he FS19768 filters for future use from The Fleetguard Filter Store.

Tristan gave me a great price:

FF5613's were $8. 72 each

FS19768's were $19. 99 each

OK,,,so I have a question again--can anyone confirm that the AD150 uses the more common 1-14 threaded filters and separators, versus the AD100 which uses rhe less common, smaller threads?? TIA.

No AD uses the same filters on all of their units.
