I have a question regarding air filters. I have a new filter for my old 2004.5 and it has exactly the same dimensions as my new 2015 filter and it fits in the air box perfectly. They have different part numbers, so I assume there is some difference. Does anyone know if I could run the 2004.5 filter in my 2015. Maybe the 2015 filter has a finer micron filtering capability?

Check with the manufacture, or at least the shop you go to, they should know.
But if it fits perfectly, why not use it ? I wouldn't think the micron rating would be much different, if any.

If it doesn't interfere with the ram active air butterfly valve and seals around the top, I would say it's OK to use.
But of you have an extended warranty and the micron rating is different, I wouldn't.

I guess I will keep it for a backup in case I need it along the road sometime. There must be some difference from the 2004 and 2015. It would be interesting to know what the difference is?

I sourced some Fleetguard air filter pics for example only.

The Fleetguard AF27684 (2007.5 thru 15) has much longer pleats, and is basically 6.7L specific.

The Fleetguard AF26106 (2003 thru 2007) has much shorter pleats, also has a foam pre-filter, and is basically 5.9L specific.

I'd imagine the AF27684 flows more CFM's.

Both filters are Mopar filters. The 2004 filter P/N is 53034249AA. The 2015 filter in my new truck is P/N: 53034051AB.

IIRC, there IS a slight difference in size of the pleats….when I was hoping to use the newer 6.7 filter in my 2005 I had to cram the pleats together to get it to fit into the 5.9 air box and id did not feel right to do it that way. Soon after, Mopar came out with the upgraded 4" deep filter for the 5.9 trucks and that one slid smoothly in. NOT saying it will cause a problem, BUT imo, I would sell the older filter to someone who can use it and buy yourself the correct part # aair filter…no sense taking chances with your Cumins powerpalnt over the cost of a $25 air filter,

Tried to get the Fleetguard measurements for the filters and their site wouldn't work.

Cross Referenced the numbers with Wix and found:

Fleetguard #AF27684 crosses with:
Wix #46930
Length: 10.930"
Width: 9.909"
Height: 4.384"

FleetGuard #AF26106 crosses with:
Wix #42846
Length: 10.75"
Width: 10.00"
Height: 2.384"

Fleetguard #AF27684 crosses with:
Wix #49946
Length: 10.75"
Width: 10.00"
Height: 4.00"

Nothing stated as for micron ratings or the thickness of the sealing surface for any filter.
And they appear to be somewhat close on the seal measurements as to length and width.
If when the cover is compressed to the main body, the seal compresses and produces a seal, why wouldn't they work ?
