Old School Cleaning of Carbon From Inside Cylinder

the way NAPA quality in general has gone downhill (like many other businesses) would lead me to think that Wix quality issues are not that concerning to them. Price though.....now that's what they go for these days. I bet that is more likely, but what do I know. I just bought a new deck belt for my Cub Cadet. I was talking to her about the "Cub Cadet" store on Amazon that sells them for $25 instead of $55. She said thats totally a fake storefront and all you have to do is look at the belt for yourself. I already figured that anyway plus I like to support this dealership too. Who is going to enforce any laws against these overseas counterfeiters? I mean send over your best detective to China? Amazon might kick off the worst ones, dunno. So much junk these days! But my original CC deck belt lasted 10 years, so lets see how this one does. Maybe their quality has also declined.

Any idea why NAPA gave Wix the boot? Could it be NAPA was concerned with their quality diminishing?

Probably looking for more profit, its all about the bottom line. I don't have a problem with Donaldson but some of the other companies, I'm not so sure about.

If anything, Wix has improved, as they were taken over by Mann-Hummel which is noted for quality.

I have a WIX 49946 with a black rubber seal and white foam on the bottom, looks different than the usual. Came in a legit looking WIX box. The 49946 stamp looks like an after thought, says made in Mexico.

Does the foam do anything?

First off the foam is a prefilter for the larger things like dead bugs. It's also known to stop snow before it reaches the paper element and water damages it. Specific example: I recall reading snow is the sole reason GM 6.2 NA round air cleaners had the foam wrap on them.

WIX has re-imagined RAM Cummins air filters forgetting some important design requirements. If you see one with a plastic screen rather than metal I suggest you buy something else, anything else! Already had the element trying to collapse the flimsy Wix plastic. No, Wix don't care.

I bought a D&D PowerDrive Kevlar V Belt for a Gravely from Amazon and have been very happy with it. It's one of the blue ones.

If it don't seem right, it probably isn't. I'd be calling Wix to see what they have to say. Look on Amazon, all of the filters have some shade of orange seal except some "DOCS Diesel" and "diesly store", which are black.

I keep several large plastic containers in the shop with spare filters (helps keep out humidity and dirt and dust and insects). Oil filters I put in ziplock bags and back in their boxes. Anyhow, just went out and looked at the one I recently bought from O'Reillys and is in a new WIX box with the Mann-Hummel info in one corner in fine print and several different European languages. The orange is almost a light pink, the metal grid is embossed with the cross pattern and the filter element is marked Made in USA. Has the two strips of glue to keep the pleats from spreading. Just like the pics below except the rubber is more pinkish.

Here is the WIX part description for the 49946 https://www2.wixfilters.com/Lookup/PartDetails.aspx?Part=1714891

you buy it off Amazon?
Yes it was Amazon, but its a vendor I've used in the past, CrossFilters or something like that. I get my Donaldson fuel filters from them too.

I rather have one without the foam, but they have been coming that way. I guess I need to change vendors. I have been getting my Donaldson fuel filters and WIX air filters all shipped together from Cross Filters. Maybe the Baldwin water separators for the Air Dog too, I can't remember if its the same seller.

I have bought oil, air & fuel filters from CrossFilters but I only buy direct for there web site, I don't trust Amazon to keep CrossFilters stock separate from other vendors selling knockoff filters
